How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just interested in hearing people's experience and feeling towards their time as a consultant. I'm interste in change management type consulting, but I know there are hundreds of avenues. Specifically I'm looking for experiences working for a company that might implement 2-4 people into another company to help them achieve their goals.

Edit: I'm not planning on becoming an independent consultant. More working for a consultant firm, such as one of the big 4 accounting firms that also do change management, etc.

Consulting is all about you getting the next gig.. You are a salesman selling your service (not a bad thing)

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Worked at a Consulting Firm in Alexandria VA, when I was in college. The person that owned it was nice enough to take me under their wing and show me the ropes in an office/business type environment.

From that experience I learned that if you are going to be a Consultant you need either a lot of initials after your name, very high former military rank, or special skills/training, a lot of years in certain agencies or be a former congressman....at least in that neck of the woods.

As was stated, you have to be able to "sell" your expertise and have people believe that you know what you are talking about.
