Please I just received an offer from Baker Hughes as a wireline FE, I would like to know the schedule for wireline with BHI around permian basin, when do one start getting a job bonus, what's the training duration with BHI wireline?, what are the career paths of a wireline FE after few years of field work, Do one get call for work during ones day off?. It would be much helpful if anyone with BHI and HAL can help answered some or all of the questions. Thanks

Pm me with your questions in detail. I'm one of the instructors for wireline. I'll fill you in on all the details.

FYI, all your training will take place at our Western Hemisphere training center in Tomball.

Dude please spell check your stuff, or take a basic English class. That was painful.

My advice though, if you want to be a company man, do WL, if you want to work for an operator down the road, don't.

Not to hijack, but Junior/BlackGold - do you have any connections to folks in Coil or Completion Tools at either BHI or HAL?

  • I cant speak about the schedule for Permian, as the base I use to work at was in Tyler, but some land bases do 7-3-7-4 and some do 14-7.
  • FE's start getting job bonus once they breakout, which is usually around 9mo-1yr after hiring. Training can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 17 weeks, depending on if you do open hole or cased hole.
  • Once you graduate the FE program, the common paths are geoscience, ops management, sales, or training. Although those are the common paths, you are basically available to go to whichever group you choose, as long as you interview and they accept you.
  • Days off are yours to do with as you please, however, your managers will usually try and get you to work some of those days. This also depends on how much of an asset you are to your base.
  • Lastly, congrats on getting an offer. I'm very suprised you received one due to the current hiring freeze, and uncertainty with the market and Halliburton takeover

DadsanAG -
  • I do know the training group for coil and completions, but if you are looking for an "in" we are in a strict hiring freeze, and possibly looking at reduction in force due to market. Same as most other companies.

Thanks for the reply. I worked with BHI previously and still have contacts, but they're all located in Odessa and can't help much at the moment either.

Been looking for a HAL contact to talk opportunities running tools, but I can easily assume their situation is no different.

May start looking hard at international/rotational opps, though that is likely a long shot.

DadsanAG, just what kind of tools can you run?

Junior, are you Adam?!?!

Midland Cased hole wireline is rumored to have already ranked their engineers for the first round of layoffs. Kind of wondering if my degree makes me hard to cut or an investment to drop. I didn't lose a packer or a junk basket downhole last week so I'm at least 2 from the bottom!

You are good at calibrating a sheave wheel so you must be good for something.

I will neither confirm nor deny whether or not I am Adam.

Does this by chance happen to be Kevin?

EngrOG,

Frankly - none.

I worked in the Thru Tubing PSL at BHI for a few years(redressing a wide variety of tools, then coordinating) and I'm trying to find an opportunity that will give me a chance to learn. Be it Casedhole, open hole, or thru tubing.

Long shot, I know - but doesn't hurt to try.

Know anyone that might have that kind of opportunity EngrOG?

I would avoid Baker Hughes at all costs. They're already laying off huge numbers of people and when the acquisition by HAL is complete, they'll lay off even more. You'll have the least seniority which will put you high on the list for layoffs.

I would take any opportunity you have!
