Have an in-person interview with them for Market Associate position.

I am almost positive the daily dress for the employees is polo and jeans. Obviously I would not wear that to interview but my first inclination is slacks and button up shirt.

However I am wondering if tie is needed.

I'm over-thinking for sure. But I need to nail this!

It's a job interview. Wear a suit and tie unless they inform you not to.

Suit and tie... Dark suit (Gray or black, pinstripes are acceptable), white shirt, do not wear a red tie unless it's for an executive/vp level position, dress shoes (not boots), don't overdue the cologne. If you've got facial hair it better be full, well trimmed, and not patchy or neck beard. Good luck!

Are you serious about the red tie? When did this become a thing?

If you're not one of the most senior people in the room or will be one of them, no red tie. Red tie is the power tie.

Not sure if you've seen this, but might be helpful as well. Glassdoor Market Associate reviews

Black suits are only acceptable for daytime wear if you're a mortician or an Asian kid right out of undergrad.

Do not wear a suit. Slacks, sport coat. No tie.

Is suit wearing just a lost thing on job interviews these days assuming it's not law, bank, or finance related??

This is what I was thinking.

My mentor told me this is the best way to go. From the feeling they portray during first interviews, they are a very comfortable company. I think no tie is the way to go.

Thanks all. Wish me luck!

Depends on the industry and location. I've worked with Expedia and know their culture.

Fair enough. I just always assumed better to be overdressed rather than underdressed. I just always wear a suit unless told otherwise. Best of luck OP!!

Dude, get over yourself. Red ties are fine. Only the most egotistical maniac would give a **** if your tie is red and I don't want to work for that guy. I personally prefer a green tie for interviews but that's just because my favorite tie happens to be green. If it were red or burgundy I would wear it and not think twice. In fact I am pretty sure I wore a red tie to most of my investment banking interviews back in the day and guess what... No one gave a **** that my tie was red!

I did a short project for them years ago in the Bellvue, WA office. Unfortunately I don't remember too much, been doing this too long. Was typical .com culture, fairly laid back.

Don't shave and dress like the Trivago guy. Take a swig of scotch in the parking lot before heading in for the interview.

Since you are stil interviewing, you are not part of their casual nl culture yet so don't assume it's ok to go to their interview casual. For an interview, regardless of what their "culture" is, you should always wear a suit and tie, unless specified otherwise. Sounds like you are looking for a reason to not wear one, which I can understand, but don't run the risk of shooting yourself in the foot as soon as you walk thru the door.

Wear the suit.

So why not dress boots? They are the best pair of shoes that I own...

I've hired a fair amount of people for their dallas office... had a couple people in there on their marketing teams, general customer support, and IT.

We always coach folks to "dress to impress." We've had folks land jobs both with/without ties.

Wear something thats professional (slacks and dress shirt at a minimum) and that you feel confident in. They are huge into culture. Be positive and have a personality is the best advice when interviewing there.

I've never cared what color tie anyone was wearing during interviews. Just make sure your coat fits.

If you are still interviewing and land an interview at an O&G company: do NOT wear a full suit. Unless it's getting up to VP levels.

This is moronic advice. For the sake of your career, please do not take it.

You're joking right? I could understand if you are talking about interviewing at an O&G field office, but not if you are interviewing in a corporate office.

If you have a suit that is fits correctly and you are comfortable wearing it, you could wear one and be more appropriately dressed than someone wearing a pair of khakis to an interview at McDonald's.

A suit should be as comfortable as a pair of pajamas and you should feel just as relaxed wearing one.

The point of my post is that how you feel in what you are wearing is more important than what you ate wearing. And it is better to be over dressed than under dressed

I've never interviewed a person and felt like they were overdressed. I can't say the same for the other extreme... I say this as someone who works in a very relaxed, manufacturing environment. If you are showing up for a professional job interview, dress the part. That's my opinion.
