HireRight is the 3rd party doing the background checks for a major oil company that just offered me. They want W2s from high school job. That was 10 years ago and completely unrelated to this job I got offered for. Are they always this intense?

The company called me today and said they might push my start date a week. They said the process usually takes about 6-8 weeks to complete. I would have thought they'd check my reference during the decision making process to offer me not after. It seems really insufficient.
