I was under the impression advisory was very difficult to get into right out of school and was generally reserved for experienced hires. For those of you having done multiple internships, were they with the same company or different ones in the same industry?

Mine will be different companies in different industries because of changing majors. I don't regret it though because it can't hurt to still have gotten experience in a business setting and learning about that industry.

I got 15/hr. I know Ford pays 24/hr for engrs.

I think that's the perception due to the fact that Mays pushes external audit so hard. Quite a few of my friends went Advisory and made it known that that's what they were interested in doing. They took external internships also, but mainly just to make sure they had an offer.

I know some who have gotten two internships with a big four. One during the spring and one over summer.

Interns make MUCH more than full time in Big 4 by the way.

Don't get 100% sold on PPA - many of my friends are getting great experience but getting paid 50-60k and working 60-80hr weeks.

Definitely good for internships, but keep your eyes open for other opprotunities for full time. Just my $0.02.
I agree with all of this. I loved the hell out of PPA and the internship. I only worked Big4 for about 4 months. I had to pay back my signing bonus when I left, but I left for a 40% pay raise. Granted, I don't really like my current job, but the extra cash over the last two and half years has made it worth it. Not to mention I don't work overtime and actually get to work a flex schedule where I take every other Friday off. The firms talk about letting you do that stuff, but in my experience, it was all BS because you have to work overtime.

Anyhow to address the OP, I was PPA group 16, MIS track. $25/hr plus time and half for OT and a lot of free meals at nice restaurants and a lot of free beer (not at official functions).

BEAggie08,

I read that you got a 40% pay raise jumping out of big 4 after 4 months, is there any truth to the popular rumors that if you stick it out until you pick up a few raises in the big 4 that when you jump to industry your pay goes way up?

Also what kind of jobs does a PPA MIS do exactly? I am pretty versed in what jobs are out there for audit and tax, but I havent had much contact with any of the MIS track graduates

I have friends that stuck around until they hit the 2 year mark. They still don't make quite what I make, but they're certainly doing better than the 50k we all started at. It all depends on who you know, opportunities, luck, etc.

MIS track does IT audit, IT consulting, and internal audit (focused on SOX compliance and controls). Many of us are CPAs ( I am not - took 2 and passed but had a kid and it derailed testing - then took my current job). I would very much like to get out of government acquisition and out into industry doing something in the MIS arena, but there aren't many prospects in my area.

2010 - $20/hr as an IT Consultant intern

2011 - $22/hr as a software engineer

neither one had any additional stipends, but it was more money than i had ever had before so i felt like a king during those summers even though i was essentially still on a college food budget
