This is skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in the maintenance, repair, and installation of high power transmission and distribution lines.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and installation work on the electrical distribution system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Constructs and maintains high power transmission and distribution lines.
Installs and repairs transformers.
Installs and maintains underground cables.
Sets poles, frames, and strings primary and secondary wiring.
Makes emergency and other repairs on wires, distribution equipment, and electrical installation.
Operates fork lifts, crane trucks, and related equipment.
May supervise labor crews engaged in trimming trees and setting poles.
Splices cables and installs squirrel guards and switch gear.
Monitors distribution loads.
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school and considerable experience related to this class of work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
Considerable knowledge of the safety methods, practices, and techniques required in electrical distribution systems work.
Considerable knowledge of local and state electrical codes.
