More specifically those in the Production Enhancement, Completion Tools, and Cementing PSLs.

I have a 2nd interview and am trying to get information on the rotational work schedule, location, etc. Just about anything you can tell me will be helpful.

Thanks guys

PE-Frac & Acid; depends on location. Usually leave in the morning and come back home every night. Some places run 24/7 operations so you'll work 12 hour shifts with another engineer. If it's leave in the morning and come home at night, usually you'll get 10 hours off in between that time.

Completion Tools-not sure about the engineer but probably get called out on most jobs

Cementing-More office than field. Lot of design for lab to test. Usually go out to the field only on foam cement jobs.

Not sure on location, but I know their doing some zipper fracs out of Alice, no way you're going home at night.

There's not much to do in Alice unless you like to dove hunt.

I work in frac in NM. We have a few 24-hour crews where the engineers work in either 12 or 8-hour shifts depending on how many people we have available. Those who work on a day crew might get home at 2pm or 10pm, depending on the size of the job. Our work is generally within an hour or two of home, so we go home every night.

Some of the crews work over in Texas and they end up being a few hours away from home. They might sleep in their car or grab a hotel (company covers the cost). Personal preference.

We work a 10 on / 4 off schedule. We are trying out a 14 on / 7 off schedule for one of the crews to see how that works for them.

Starting off as a field engineer at Halliburton is a great way to get your foot in to the industry. All of the engineers who were here when I started have moved on to bigger jobs, either with Halliburton or with an operator.

If it's not too personal, what's the salary range for a frac tech? Also, is CDL/HAZMAT a definite requirement? Thanks.

Field engineers start out somewhere around $50k/year with a $10k sign-on bonus on top of that. Once you've been here for 9 - 12 months, you should be able to give what we call a breakout presentation to your peers and managers. If you pass that, you become eligible for field bonus. For our area, it's $150 / day up to $2500 / month. We also offer per diem to cover your meals that you take to the field. That can be a few hundred dollars a month depending on how often you are out there.

I am in the office quite a bit more than some of the other guys as I'm transitioning to something different and have different responsibilities. I'd say I'm in the field 65% of the time and do not max out at that $2500 / month often. I brought in just under $97k last year, i.e. 2nd year in the company.

Keep in mind this is also on top of insurance, 401k matching, employee stock purchase plans, etc. You will make more with the smaller guys, but they don't always offer all the extras. Also, notice I was hired in May '09. Pretty bad economy around that time, so I also like the stability here. Work your ass off and you're going to have a job.
