Just started out as a field engineer for a service company and on a 10on/4off schedule.

Not so bad. Perfect so I can get **** done at places that are closed on weekdays.

I really enjoy my 7-4 schedule. It's even nicer now that I work from home.

4 on / 4 off...but rotating gets old.

Was told to get 40 hours of work done each week as I saw fit when I worked for the City of Carrollton Parks and Rec.

I could work 6am-8pm for three days and get off at 6pm the third day and have 4 days off each week. As long as the work load got done my sup didn't mind my schedule.

You rotate on every job dude...4/4 is way better than 5/2.

If you like shiftwork, Dupont schedule beats 4 on 4 off hands down, IMO.

I've never had anything but the regular 8-5 x 5. But of the others I've seen, 4 tens looked to be pretty nice or better yet, 9 eighties where your day off alternated between the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. That gave you 9 hour days, which safe no big deal, and a 4 day weekend at least once a month.

I love the 8-5 I have now mainly for the fact that everyone leaves at 5. And if someone stays, they don't look at you all judgmental when you leave.

Just kidding..Im a republican. 4/10s is hard to beat, but would like to have 4/4 rotation.
In sales now, so no "fixed schedule"

I was an FE a few years back with an 11-3 then a 10-4 schedule. When I was doing cement jobs, there were times where my 10 days ended until 8 am of my first day off and then I would get called in for a midnight yard time on the fourth day, because the person coming from days off were always the fist ones back out.... Good luck!

i've done 5x8s, 4x10s, 9-80, 5-wk rotating shift. they all have their pluses and minuses. right now i'm on 5 wk rotating and i like it the best. working nights and weekends sucks, but i also get a week off at one point. overtime can be hit or miss...i went almost 3 months with no extra shifts and i'm basically in the middle of working 5 extra shifts.

plus, on rotating (at least for me), i can take 36 hours vacation and get two weeks off. it really works out well for travel back to texas. now if i could only get my wife to quit her job and stay at home...

7-4 is good for me. I need some structure or I keep really strange hours. Even if I work late I usually leave by 530, which is nice.

I think 9-80 would be cool.

Yell, my time offs are like that. If I take a week off, it is really 2 weeks off.

Plus working only 3 days a week is freaking awesome. I'm going on a little 5 day vacation in October & I don't have to take any time off.

This. Basically had a week vacation every month during long change. 12 hour shifts...4 nights; 3 off; 3 days; 1 off; 3 nights; 3 off; 4 days; 7 off.

Basically you work 3 one week and 4 the next. And for my job we didn't have to be on call during the 7 off.

Racking up overtime was nice and didn't suck near as much as it does to rack up OT working a 5 day, 8-5.

4 days on 4 off, 3 days on 3 off and it rotates between the two. I'm on my four off now. We're supposed to go to 3 on 4 off soon which is a big pay cut but nice in the days off (lose my over time )

Never really worked a job with a set schedule, but I am a borderline workaholic so there is a potential drawback. I get paid for 40, but have a lot of random night, morning and weekend appointments. I flex things around as need be, but ultimately do what I need to to get things done and keep folks happy. Granted we got an email a while back about reducing the "culture of voluntary uncompensated work".
