I had an interview with them this morning and was asked to take their personality/aptitude test. I think it all went pretty well but I am curious about other people's opinions on Sewell. Any other former or current employees out there?

We are the company that sell them that assessment.

not quite sure what Sewell does...but keep in mind that Chrysler is in Chap 11 and GM is expected to follow suit soon.

I don't know that automotive is the wisest place to be right now.

Sewell is higher end cars. Don't think they are hurting as much.

I interviewed with them last semester. Had to take the aptitude test and was invited to an on-site interview in Dallas. I was all excited because of all the glam they throw at you in their presentations. To keep things short, I was very unimpressed once I arrived at their dealership. They may say alot of things to entice you, but in the end, they're selling cars. You don't go to college to be a car salesman.

What is wrong with breaking the mold? People don't go to college to sell cars but they go to college to sell copiers?

I'm being considered for sales. I actually got a call back this afternoon from GM at one of the dealerships asking me to come in to the dealership to meet with them.

From what I've heard, it's a great place. It's not for everyone, though.

Great business. If you have any interes in selling cars, do it with them. There is a difference between selling cars at some dealer and selling cars at Sewell.

I wanted a job and have sold cars in the past, but then my current job came up the same week Sewell offered me a job.

If you are smart and know cars and love cars, you will make good money...probably more than most others you know right out of college

But in the end, you go to college to get a job. Yes, you don't need a degree to sell cars. But, Sewell has an execellent program, and from what I've seen, don't play car sales games.

And at the end of the day, you do what you can do to provide for yourself.

I've known a couple of people out of college who went to work for them.

One actually was in PPA and was working for UHY, then quit to work for Sewell.

But I agree with what Rudyjax said, they seem to have a great program there at Sewell. They all seem to make good money too.

Sewell is very different from the normal car company. You either have to have a college degree or have been there 5 years in order to sell for them.

piag will testify, he was actually one of my customers at Sewell one time, we're very different from the typical dealer.

Although the jerk didn't buy the car...not that I'm bitter...

Piag,

I currently work for an industrial/construction supply company selling nuts and bolts. I would not normally think that having a degree would be required to sell such products but the company requires it. What in your opinion is okay for a college graduate to sell? Copiers? Office supplies? Nuts and bolts? Why should it not be okay for a college educated person to sell 50-60k cars but be okay to sell a 4k copy machine or in my case a $7 bag of bolts?

btho,
It's not my fault your manager didn't want a sweetarse H3 for his inventory!! LOL. The wife has what she wanted all along.

Sales use to be a dirty word, but one good thing about it...if you're good, the sky is the limit. It doesn't matter what you sell. I would never be in anything that limited my earning potential.

Piag,
So you guys make the assessment and sell it to them. You dont go to college to work for a company that prints copies of tests and sells them to people for cents each.

Not really sure where you get the idea that it is wrong to sell cars if you have a college degree. Isnt the point of a degree to get an education that prepares you for a job that pays good money and you enjoy?

You can go be a teacher and make $45k the rest of your life, or go sell cars and make over $50k for the first year, then over $100k for a few years, then get promoted and make over $200k as a manager...see where this is going??? Plus, the people I met there all LOVE their job.

But you are right, dont get a college degree and then try to get a job with them. I guess thats ok. Oh yeah, they only hire college grads. Mostly A&M grads.

You, my friend, need a reality check.

m48,
Where did I say it was wrong to sell cars? Actually I said the opposite.

As for working for a company that sells copies for cents, I don't have any complaints.

It's your inability to use quotes.

Rudy,
Maybe I am blind, (which I have been accused of MANY times), but why would I need quotes?

someone posted getting a degree and selling cars is a waste. I told him, he needed a reality check.

Am I missing something?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Actually Sewell has such superior customer service that when I buy a new car I am considering buying a car that isn't my favorite, just so I can keep them as my service provider. No one comes close to them. Now if only they would stop hiring tards, then we might be onto something!! They are pretty easy on the eyes, though.

yeah, because myself and others thought you were the author of everything you wrote.

It's message board etiquette to quote someone else's words so that people know that you are not just repeating what someone else said.

I thought you too weren't making too much sense.

Sewell ****ing rocks. I am ALL about keeping my money local (BCS), but I couldn't get a local dealer to compete on the last two vehicles I've purchased, and Sewell bent over backwards to get the job done.

I highly recommend Gardner LeMaire. I've only spoken with him on the phone or via email, but I've purchased an '07 Yukon and '09 G8 from him in the last 12 months. Both vehicles were delivered to me at a nominal charge, and both vehicles had more options at a better price than was offered locally. Outstanding service.

I've heard they have killer quotas...

I did the onsite tour as well.. met Dan Frogg at Sewell Lexus, interesting guy.

Selling cars is selling cars. I think the biggest knock against most sales vs car sales is that you MUST work virtually every Saturday for the rest of your life. I don't know about you, but I didn't go to college to work Saturdays for the rest of my life.

I have a buddy who graduated from SMU with MS in ACCT. Took a job with KPMG, got the bonus and everything. His family is in the luxury car business (Volvo) and ended up returning his bonus and selling cars for a year.

Now he is in the finance side of things, which is still crappy hours, but better money. I am not sure what your degree is in, but I think that is where I would want to be. You WILL eventually hit cap in car sales, but at Sewell it will most likely be close to six figures. Good luck.

The hours and inconsistent income were the two reasons I left the business. You can make a lot of money, but you will work a lot of hours. There is nothing that sucks worse than getting a call from a customer that wants to come back in and finish up that night when you have plans or decided to take a day off.

Also, you only make the big money if you are above average. Average salesman sells 8 cars a month. Average commission is ~$300.

Also, repeat customers are difficult to come by at first since people only buy cars every 39 months on average. The above average guys usually do it off of years of repeat business and referrals.

Well I got offered a position at the Hummer/Saab dealership in Plano and start a week from Monday.
m48xhp
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good luck!....but keep in mind Hummer and Saab will no longer exist one year from now. Make sure they have a plan for you when that happens...if they dont, figure it out now.
TxAgg07

They already have a plan, thanks for the advice.
