I worked for a high volume residential real estate broker while in school, he did fairly well. Had a buddy whose father worked as a broker/financial planner for Morgan Stanley, they were doing fine. There's always head football coaching.

It depends on what your definition of well is, but tenured professors, successful folks working commission based jobs and of course typical doctor/lawyers are doing well in CS.

Steven,

In my experience unless you are an attorney, doctor, nurse, professor, consulting engineer, consulting IT, or a super-salesman it will be difficult to make more than $60K in College Station on a salary. I am sure there are some higher paying jobs that I am not aware of, but I think that i am correct for the most part.

Most folks I know making over $100K in College Station are self-employed.

Hopefully someone knows of opportunities that I am not aware of.

I just found this job on Monster. It doesn't specifically say so, but it looks like 100% commission to me.

I heard there might be a job opening for a head football coaching position soon. The pay is pretty good, but good luck getting anyone in town to talk to you after the first season or two.

Unless you are an independent IT contractor with a steady stream of work (no benefits of course), I doubt you can pull 60K as an IT professional in the B/CS area. The demand, unlike the Houston and D/FW areas, is just not there.

Oh the demand is there its just the pay sucks. There were several on here last week looking for .net developers and were throwing numbers ~$38k.

agnomaly,

What I meant by *consulting* IT is someone who does not work for a company based in College Station.

I know several consulting IT professionals who make over $100K living in College Station.

Yes, its the people who come in for a particular project at 100 bucks an hour that are making the cash.

That would be me I will always casually look for an IT opportunity here, but the pay does suck indeed. Is this area inundated with IT professionals, or does the student labor warrant the lower pay? Maybe it's a combination of both...

There are SOME companies looking for .net developers paying a bit more than 38k... In fact, I have 2 open req's right NOW....
