If you are worried about being able to pass either of those classes, I would send a letter to A&M saying thanks but no thanks and see if tech, SHSU, or SFA is still willing to take you.

To answer your question though, pick whichever. I don't think one is harder than the other. They both suck somewhat at A&M because you are in huge classes.

neither should be an issue. Study and don't get a sucky prof and you should be able to do fine. If you can't, take the above suggestion

im not saying im lazy or trying to pick the easiest road, otherwise i would be going to tech. which ever class i take(junior college or A&M) im gonna study my a$$ off. i just dont wanna get a tremendously hard class my freshman year or have too many hard classes.

That's what I am saying. You should be able to take one or both of those at A&M without putting in too much effort. If you are in those classes at A&M and are finding them to be really hard, you may be in over your head.

Those classes aren't meant to be weed out classes. If anything, they are the classes you should be getting easy As in to boost your GPA before you hit your upper level classes.

well neither of those should be anything less than a B unless you're completely overloaded and don't have time for the class at all. Just take 15 hours or less, including one of those classes, and hope it pads your GPR.

If it were me, I'd take english at community college; there's a lot more flexibility in how much of a jerk the prof can be for that than for history.

The weed out classes will come via chemistry and biology.

i would do history at a JUCO, sometimes you can get some hard ass student teacher for 105 or 106 that wants to make the class much harder then it should be. Then again you could have a native Korean for ENGL 104 like me who could barley speak the language. It is a tossup really, whats your major?

the weedout classes come via physics and math. history and english were easy, chem 101 was a review of high school chemistry.

I dont think weed out courses really exist at A&M unless you are in the more technical science and engineering majors.

That being said, History was not a bad class if you had the right prof. I took english AP in high school and didn't have to at A&M. It looked horrible so I would take that one elsewhere if you have the option.

History was really easy for me here, but I think I had the worst 104 english prof - she said that a C in her class was the equivalent of a B in another class, but also said that if you didn't do well in her class that there was no way you'd make an A or B in 203. Really bad prof who graded on writing style and not content and doing what the assignment was about. There are a lot of horror stories about Engl 104 floating around - profs that didn't speak passible english, etc.

any engineering freshman and most sophmore level classes are weed out.
everything else is not bad.

All freshman and sophmore classes are potential weed outs. If you get a bad feeling about something, jump ship during the add drop week.

Chem 101/102 was basically a review of high school chemistry (I went to maybe 1/4 of the chem 101 classes and a half of 102. Powerpoints + previous knowledge and I could figure things out on my own). They shouldn't be weed out classes.

Biology 101 was just boring as hell. Biology 102 was rote memorization. Those aren't weed out classes.

Now Organic Chemistry, I could see that as a weed out class.

If your teacher is caucasian, english is usually pretty easy.

I took english and hist 106 at other colleges so they would count against my gpa. I took hist 105 here because I had no other option at the time, and I made a B pretty easily. I find it hard to make A's in history unless you are really interested in it.

I made A's in all my math, physics, and engineering courses because thats what I was interested in.

I took english at another school. I took my history during the summer. I had
"Mr. Wonderful" for one of the classes. Wasn't bad he was just into himself.

As long as you put a little effort, History and English should be fairly easy classes; least that's how it was for me.

Personally I would take them both at JuCo because they will both be easier there than they will be at A&M, not that they're hard at A&M.

And the BIOL112 and 113 and CHEM101 & 102 ARE weedout classes because they *are* so easy. If you're not careful you could easily bomb them. It may be rote memorization, but if you're not doing the rote memorization you will fail!!

If you are an engr major, history and english are your gpa boosters.
MSCAg

Exactly, take them at JUCO if you don't want to work, take them at A&M if you want an A that counts.

Unless you're terrible at history.

Ulrich

How can you be terrible at history? That is a serious question, since history isn't really a skill in itself; I'm not making fun or anything. Poor reading comprehension? Not paying attention in lecture? I managed to drop to a B in one history, but only because it was an honors and I slept through class didn't read anything after the first test.

history is so easy, i didnt read one thing for 105 and 106 and pulled off an A in both. And when I say i didn't read, i mean not even a single sentance. I did take really good notes though, and BSed my essays. I think it really depends on who you are and who your profs are. But seriously if you actually read you shouldnt get even a B no matter who your prof is.

wow, so I'm guessing no1 here has ran into the hard history classes, my 105 prof had an A ratio of .8 out of 3 sections. I assure you history 105 can be difficult. (and, yes I made an A, but just barely)
Predmid

I blame it being at 8:00 am during my first semester at A&M. But, to be honest, I just lack any ability to flat out memorize crap I read from a book. It doesn't matter how many times I read it, etc. I have a hard time just memorizing dates and information.

Give me practice problems and more conceptual learning, and I'll do fine.

But almost all my "easy A's" for History, Poly Sci, etc. I struggled in.

Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
OK, I guess that makes sense.

The one test my 106 prof broke down the grades for, out of 180 students there were 5 As. I had an 89, and hadn't done all the reading. What I do read, I generally remember forever. Unfortunately, I am not quite so good at learning math and physics (or at least doing the problems).

History can be a cakewalk or hell (when striving for A's)

example from my history classes:

Fall Semester: 6% made A's out of 185
Spring Semester: about 18% made A's out of 250

Just USE PIK A PROF it will save your GPA

I dunno, maybe its just me, but I didn't encounter what I would call a "weed out" class until some of my lower level major classes.
SwampFox
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"Weed-outs" Don't exist here in the sense of general freshman classes designed to flunk out the non-hackers.

"Weed-outs" DO exist in the engineering and sciences MAJOR level classes.

There is a running joke here that practically everyone USED to be an engineering major.

Your freshman English class may suck if your prof is a graduate student with a chip on her shoulder. I made a better grade in an honors English class I took as an elective (why, I don't know) than the freshman English everyone takes. That said, if you can't pull a C in it even with a hard-ass, you don't belong here.

History is easy as a sorority girl at the Tap. Seriously not difficult.
