Does anyone know of an easy 400 level math course? I know, they are probably all hard, but which one has the easiest concepts to learn, in your opinion?

I need it to get a minor in Math.

i had the same question a couple of months ago and didn't really get a response.

Easy 400 level math courses don't exist.

Are you going after the minor in math just to say you got it or because you only need one more math to do so? I did the same thing, but wound up dropping the class after the professor of the course basically told me the math minor is meaningless and I'd probably never use it. I agreed.

I myself took 417 which isn't too bad, but I guess you could get stuck with a bad prof. I don't know if i would completely recommend it. Others that I heard arent too bad are 401 and 412. 411 might not be too bad but I havent really heard much about it. Stay away from 409.

412 seems easy...and then you get the grades back

and that was with a good prof

I took a class that wasn't horrible (I forget the exact number/name)

It was basically math models for analyzing financial systems (stocks, mutualfunds, etc...)

No real hard concepts just memorizing formulas and such.

do NOT take 401 with Daripa...

If you honestly feel you'll ever in your lifetime need that minor, then choose the course being offered that you think you'll use the most in your profession.

409 was my final math class before switching to business. Probably should of had a B, but got lazy after changing and got a C.

Cryptology

401, 411, 414, 417 and 470 and the best of the worst so Ive heard.

I took 414 with Petrova and it wasnt so bad, but I am/was an ELEN and so Ive had a lot of Fourier series between all of my courses. The only people in the room were math majors and ELEN students.

However, it was the class that Ive taken with the highest percentage of hot girls in it (wacky I know) and I even took some business courses last semester in grad school.

I'm planning on taking Cryptology since I'm a CS major. Does it actually pertain to CS at all?

401 had decent topics, but please don't get in Daripa's class.

txrandom, I believe to an extent, but not flat out , not as much as DISCRETE math though lol.

No, I graduated in December and had him Spring of '06. I had friends in Fuller's class too and they didn't much like him either.

Yeah, his class was pretty bad. I ended up skipping a lot because I just wasn't getting anything useful out of his lectures.

has anyone else taken 425?

I took 412 with Efendiev and it was challenging but fair. Looks like he's not teaching it this semester, though. Fulling taught the other section the semester I took it and I heard that his course was a lot more difficult...not surprising because I had him for 151 and he was a nice guy but in his own world a lot.

Like some others have said, my advice would be to pick the one that most relates to your field. I talked to my advisor about which class I should take and that's how I ended up in 412 (I was METR).
