My daughter is a high school senior and is wanting to go into nursing. Does anyone have any experience with the nursing program at A&M? If so, would love to hear your thoughts on the program as a whole, as well clenical placement - meaning how far away from College Station. Thanks!

My daughter is in same boat. The problem I have with the nursing program, as well as most in state nursing programs, is the secondary application process. A&M has a super low acceptance rate and allegedly doesn't prioritize current students. I have a hard time spending that kind of money and then her not being able to finish school there. Much cheaper to complete prerequisites at a community college, keep the GPA up and save money before applying to nursing schools.

Agreed. In state wise, my kiddo is applying to A&M and UT nursing. UT is direct admit, but the acceptance rate is like 3%. A&M isn't as difficult to get into, but it isn't direct admit. She's also looking at Mizzou and Arkansas, mizzou bcause of the 5 on campus hospitals for hands on learning and Arkansas because of the steep tuition assistance for Texas residents.

Why not look at getting an associates in nursing first? You end up with the same RN behind your name as everyone else and everyone makes the same $$ when hired as a new grad RN.

This is trueish. However, my daughter's ultimate goal is CRNA. For that she needs a BSN.

UMHB in Belton has a strong BSN program and close ties to BSW in Temple.

You can always start with the assoc degree and work as an RN. Most larger systems will then help with tuition for the future degrees.

FWIW. Prairie View has one of the better programs around.

She can look into being an Anesthesiologist Assistant as well. If someone is sure they want to do anesthesiology and not be a physician, it is the route I would personally take,
