I've got a son at Galveston and a huge fan of the place, they are Aggies in every sense but it's a smaller campus and smaller classes with the option of changing majors to CS very easily.

I didn't realize though that while A&M apps are closed, Galveston is still open until May 1. The key is if you go on Common App it says it is closed but you can still apply on Apply Texas. This is a great option for kids that are getting offered PSA now, Galveston is a much better option for 99% of kids rather than Corpus or Kingsville or the other System but not Annex schools. At Galveston you get Aggie football tickets and are truly part of A&M College Station you are just by the ocean with some other distinctions.

FWIW they have Aggieland By the Sea coming up Feb 15 for anyone that is on the fence about it you can go down and check it out. BTW, Galveston also has the 2 highest paying majors in the A&M System with Maritime Transportation and Maritime Engineering Technology for anyone that likes the idea of working on a boat!

this is a great, great option for those high school seniors who might have fallen behind the typical timeline.

Thank you for bringing it up as an option. I hope some people see this and decide to move forward with this option.

Another great major down there is Maritime Administration. It's one of the best Maritime Business programs in the world and is affiliated with Mays I believe. They have a study abroad in Copenhagen for the same cost as a regular Semester in Galveston. It's a high demand major for anyone wanting to work in the Houston area especially but it's not at all limited to that and it pays well.

There's also a lot to be said about going to a school full of Aggies with 2500 instead of 75,000.

First, thank you so much for this post. My daughter just got PSA just a razor thin sliver outside of top 10%.

What is the transfer into major process like? For reference, she wants psychology… popular but not mays/engineering. Has does that work (she will get all A's if that matters)? Do u have to apply for acceptance to a major?

Should be very doable but I would A) Apply to Galveston and B) Talk to someone in the Psychology Dept in CS and C) Talk to someone at Galveston about your plan, they are far more receptive and easy to contact in general than College Station. The good news is she will be at A&M and simply changing colleges, it is not a transfer to CS.
