My daughter is a HS senior at a very competitive high school in Katy ISD. Her SAT score is only 1180 and her weighted GPA is 3.87. She wants to study Animal Sciences and only wants to go to A&M.
During her last SAT in August the Bluebook app crashed and she lost a lot of time before they could get it working again so her score will probably be even lower. The next SAT is not until October 5th.
Texas A&M does not require SAT/ACT scores and claims that not submitting a test score will not negatively affect the admission but I seriously doubt that.
In addition, should she wait for general admission in hopes to get a higher SAT score or apply for early decision without a SAT score.

it is a good thing that she wants to be in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (AgriLife).

Texas A&M has rolling admissions. as such, there is usually a benefit to applying early.

She it probably in the top 40% of her high school which is top ranked in Katy ISD and in the top in the state. Extremely competitive.
A lot if extracurricular activity, especially with FFA on school, district and state level and animal raising experience (goats, lambs, rabbits, steers), but I honestly don't believe in the supposedly 'holistic' review by admissions. I think that GPA and SAT/ACT are still the main items affecting admissions.

I would apply early with no SAT, take SAT and if it's better and she doesn't get in , then appeal using the new score. Since she doesn't want Mays or Engineering, a Blinn team option would probably be a good fit if she doesn't get full admission.

Our son was 11% last year at a big 6A school. He took his SAT and scored 1350. He applied into Mays and was accepted. The admission officer we talked to said to submit his SAT because of his score. Another friend of ours was told not to submit their daughter's SAT score because it was 1100. She was top 15% (same school) and was denied by Mays but got into Economics.

Def agree with applying early and taking again

Going through the app process with kid #2 now (kid #1 is about to graduate). Based on everything I've gathered, you may as well submit because low score and no score seem to be the same result - very unlikely to get admitted. That said, people misjudge what they consider a low score so I think some don't send in a score that may have been just good enough to get in.

All that said, the advice for this year is the goal is 1400 SAT or 30 ACT to get on the safe zone, so keep taking if below that

Apply now and keep sending in scores later. I'd take a shot at the ACT as well - Oct 26 exam (sept 20 registration deadline, oct 7 late). Kids are different, but kid #2 did much better on the ACT. Kid #1 made equivalent on both.

Just my 2 cents here but I am afraid it might be a tough road to get into A&M with a 1180 SAT and lower 2nd quartile. Based on my experience, it's tough to get into TAMU with a lower SAT score and outside of top 25 to 30%. A friend's daughter had similar stats wanting to go into vet school and is at Blinn hoping to eventually transfer in. Another friend's daughter got into the TAMU education dept with a 1300 and was barely outside the 1st quartile. I would work hard to bring up the SAT or possibly take the ACT, it might be easier for her. Good luck but start discussing other options just in case.
