What are good majors out there these days, that lead to jobs after graduation? Is Psychology a good degree? It used to be a good Major for Law School, and other advanced degrees and/or Sales jobs...

Obviously interests are the most important thing. Engineering of course has great outcomes but there are plenty of others. Mays Business school is well respected and has strong outcomes. Not sure that Construction Science would appeal to her but it's got strong outcomes. Psychology is a tough one. Need at least a Masters realistically and a very common major with very mixed outcomes. Most Liberal Arts are similar or poor unless you really have a passion and a plan. There are some paths with Political Science (Pre Law, Public Administration, Policy). College of Ag has a lot of niches that have strong outcomes if that is something she can find interest in and they aren't all about a rural job at all though many crossover into STEM.

The most important thing imo is finding something that she can have a passion for and that can lead to a job she will enjoy and hopefully be able to be self sufficient. Typically the more you aren't following the crowd the more likely it is you will find success in that. For instance talking about Psychology you have a lot of people majoring in it and a lot of them are very passionate about it so you have to work really hard to stand out from the crowd which is tough considering you will have some trouble getting a job with just a BA/BS in Psychology, they are out there but rarely working directly in the field.

My oldest is doing GIS (at UTD), it's like a combo of social science and data science with pretty maps. It was not on her radar at all when she started school but it's been a great fit.

Still has a bit of math/science/programming but not as heavy as engineering/science majors.

She has had no problem getting internships and once she's done, there are lots of jobs in lots of industries (some with decent pay), and the major teaches practical skills that translate directly to the workforce.

GIS has bloomed in our industry, civil engineering. Our firm primarily does public design and planning. Program management and construction management. GIS provides tools to do large system analysis and data access. It also helps with a number of engineer discussions with clients that are not engineers. Example is asset management for a city. Like their water distribution system. Pipes, valves, pump stations, fittings, bends etc. Having all of that data in GIS maps helps in planning, budgeting and also operations.

Just an example of GIS. It's really growing.

Business is a good major as you only have to take two easy Math courses and 3 sciences that you can make pretty easy nowawdays

My daughter wasn't weak in Math and Science. But she was strong in English. 800 on SAT.

Majored in English with minors in Linguistics and Political Science in undergrad.

Went to T-14 Law School and graduated.

The Bush a school has some interesting programs

My kid pulls in 300k at Speaker City and can barely read....
