Hey y'all! I'm not looking for a debate on why unions are good or bad

Who can share info on teachers unions in Austin or Texas in general?

Can't say anything about teachers union.

But I can tell you about healthcare union. It hurts the organization but benefits all employees and more for non-union employees/managment.

Companies preach how bad unions are....but as an opponent of unionization, I hid my smile dealing with union as most of union benefits were also passed on to the non organized employees and I didn't have to pay any dues.

I've been teaching for 25 years and I can tell you my experience is that I hear more about Teacher's unions by people outside of education then by teachers themselves. They exist but a majority of teachers I know do not belong to them. I'm sure they have some influence, but it's nowhere near the influence people not in education seem to believe. Maybe in other states they're more influential, but not as much here in Texas as you might believe.

Unions are weak in Texas. But if you want to know why strong unions aren't good, you can read this:

They are non-bargining. I was a member of one solely because they offered liability insurance. Their political positions were not supported by me nor the majority of the teachers I worked with.
