Howdy.
Based on my son's recent AP test results, it appears that he has qualified for an AP Scholar Award. What good are these? Do they really mean anything to college admissions personnel?

Thanks and gig 'em.

I think it depends on where he is applying. My daughter is a May 23 high school grad and some of the schools we visited that were either test optional or do not accept SAT/ACT scores were very interested in AP scores, which is just another form of standardized testing. So I think in those instances, the AP scores and Scholar, Capstone, etc. can make a difference.

The significance of the AP Scholar award may vary, but individual AP scores can hold substantial weight. Particularly for students interested in engineering, high scores in subjects like AP Calculus (AB and BC) and AP Physics (1 and C) can greatly enhance their chances of admission to selective colleges or earning scholarships. These scores can distinguish students from the pool of applicants with 750/800 Math scores and bolster their overall testing profile.

I strongly advise any student aiming for admission to a selective college or scholarship program to achieve their desired SAT score by the Winter Break of their senior year. This allows students to allocate their resources effectively during the Spring semester and focus on AP exams.
