My daughter is interested In a career in speech pathology. Can anyone offer advice on a suggested undergraduate majors to best prepare for entry to this graduate program?

What are your thoughts on allied/public health degree?

The kinesiology/allied health degrees are great for those PT/OT and other allied health professions. Where students often get into trouble is when their GPAs are not competitive for those post grad fields and leaving them with a limited set of options.

Public health is a little better since the skills/knowledge learned in that degree offers more flexibility for post grad career options.

I agree with going kind of a healthcare route, but communication might be a good backup/alternative option, especially if she can take courses focusing on the mechanics of speaking and common issues. My best friend married an SLP and I was surprised by all of the things they can do with it. She works at a hospital, helping stroke victims and the like with swallowing issues. Some of her classmates work for public schools, others work as private speech coaches.

SLP or Communication Disorders, neither of which A&M offers.

She's going to need an M.S. to practice so I'd check the prerequisites for those programs.
