My son is a senior engineering major at A&M and is now thinking that while he only has like 32 hrs left to formally graduate, he is thinking of adding a couple certificates or minors late before he graduates. If he ends up qualified graduate but wants to finish doing another 20-30 hrs to get some certificates, is that still acceptable at A&M? I know they have gotten a little stickier about total hours etc. fyi, in this scenario he WOULD stay below the max 150 net hrs or so.

Have him talk to his major advisor, but this is allowed. Most certificates are set up in a way where he could graduate with his BS degree and still spend a semester or two finishing out a certificate. And graduating should turn off that excess hours clock. Minors would have to be completed before he could graduate with his BS, but they should add hours to that maximum total.

Thanks I will see if he will talk to them. I know a number of the certs he is interested in aren't directly affiliated with his major and it looks like a lot of the prerequisites aren't in his major.
