Texas A&M University has announced the creation of the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academies with four two-year colleges across the state of Texas. The colleges include Houston Community College in Houston, Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Alamo Colleges in San Antonio, and El Centro College in Dallas, all of which will be supported by a $5 million gift from Chevron. The academies were developed to address the growing need for engineers, especially in Texas, which is estimated to be around 62,000 engineers by 2022.

"Texas has a significant need for more engineers and has an abundance of capable students. This new academy program provides a unique pathway toward earning a bachelor's degree in engineering by completing the first two years of coursework at a two-year college as a Texas A&M engineering student," said John Sharp chancellor of The Texas A&M University System
