Chances of getting in Spring 2016 or Fall 2016 through Blinn (Not Blinn Team) vs PSA

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I was offered PSA, and right now I can't decide whether to go to a PSA school or go to Blinn College and try to transfer either spring of 2016 or fall of 2016. My goal to transfer in the spring was to take a lot of college hours at a nearby college, or Blinn, then attend Blinn this fall with hopes of transferring to Engineering (Computer Science) spring of 2016. I want to be an aggie more than anything else, but I'm not sure what to do, as you are not guaranteed admission through Blinn. Has anyone else done this or know of anyone that has done this and what are the chances of being able to transfer? I am also willing to apply to a college besides COE if that is the difference between getting in or not. All help is appreciated, thanks.

My daughter is in your same situation, she is going to go to Blinn next year, but she also has 12 dual credit hours now and is going to take 12 hours this Summer to try to transfer in the Spring. We are meeting the Advisors next week to understand everything she needs to do and take. She wants to be an Aggie more than anything too and is willing to do the work to make it happen. There are pro's and con's to all avenue's leading to TAMU, only you know the best one for you. I know for her it would be a hard transition to go to another school for a year outside of College Station, she has been on campus with her sister for the past 2 years, it's home to her now.

If you want in, get a 3.0 at Blinn and apply to a liberal arts major. 3.0+ in CLLA is 99.999% guaranteed

I've read that you have to apply by a certain date in October for Spring admission, and if this is true, will you be able to count the hours that you've been taking at Blinn as the semester won't be over by then? I've also been looking into Tarleton State for PSA, but again I'm not sure what to do. I'm going down to College Station this Friday to discuss my options with an adviser.

#Gadgets, what about Agriculture Leadership, is that harder to get into than Liberal Arts?

All --

Please DO NOT apply for something you think you can get into with the hopes of moving into what you really want. University rules stipulate you must follow the coursework for the major to which you're admitted for at least one semester. This could hinder your ability to take the coursework needed to complete a successful change of major. In addition, while TAMU will never prevent you from trying, the change of major process is NEVER guaranteed. I've seen students be admitted to TAMU only to be stuck in a major they're not happy with. Please DO NOT follow #Gadgets advice about applying to the College of Liberal Arts unless you are actually interested in completing one of their degrees.

If your ultimate goal is the COE, you SHOULD NOT use the PSA. You can certainly attend a system school or any other institution, but you need to take the appropriate coursework for your intended major and apply as a regular transfer student. There is a still a risk involved, but the odds are in your favor to go that route.

You can't apply for spring admission unless you have at least 24 transferable hours COMPLETE by the October 15 deadline.

Please review the transfer course sheet for Ag Leadership here:

http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/files/0e/0e18079f-712c-4e17-b1c8-553b92ae4b9d.pdf

The most competitive applicants will have at least 24 transferable hours and at least a 3.0 GPA.

My child wants to be a business owner some day, so the more things she can be exposed to like Ag business/leadership the better, more diversity brings more opportunities in the future.

To be honest, I would rather attend Texas A&M with a major I'm not entirely happy with than not go at all. That being said, would it be possible to attend Tarleton State my first year for PSA, go into Political Science, and then transfer to Computer Science my 3rd year? Also, could you give an example of the odds of transferring into COE from Blinn? I am just very fearful I will go to Blinn only to find out I won't get into Texas A&M as a transfer. Also, if I were somehow able to transfer in the Spring, would I be able to join the Corps of Cadets? Thanks.

Oh and one more thing, what would you say about going to TAMUG then transferring to COE CS? Sorry for all of the questions, I am just really lost on what to do.

Met with Admissions and the College Advisor, have a solid plan for my daughter now, best 4 hours trip ever! Would highly recommend that as the first step, and Thank you #Gadget for the Advisor's name he was awesome and is actually my other daughter's Advisor so now hopefully he will have both girls a year from now and I will be an Aggie Mum to 2 Aggie's!!!

Did you decide PSA or Blinn? I'm also going to College Station this Friday so I will be able to ask all the questions I need to figure out the best route for me.

As mentioned above, we never recommend using PSA to be admitted to TAMU with the hope of moving into the major you really want. TAMU will never prevent you from attempting it, but there is NO guarantee it will be possible. The odds are in your favor to NOT use PSA, take the coursework you need for Computer Science and apply directly to that program as a regular transfer. In that scenario, it doesn't matter where you attend (Tarleton, Blinn, etc.). More than 50% of our transfer students come from Blinn. We don't give preference/priority to those students, but they are typically in tune with what's expected of them.

Yes, you can join the Corps as a transfer student.

Galveston is a completely different process. It's NOT a transfer but rather a change of curriculum. I think either option is good. Computer Science is not one of the programs with limited space like Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean it's easier to get in or that they accept everyone, it just means there's less competition.

She is doing Blinn. The advisors were great, they gave her a detailed plan of what she needs to take and she feels confident she will get into TAMU in the future.

jrs4381, I would make an appt with the College that you want to get into in addition to meeting with Admissions, that way you understand everyone's expectations. I truly felt like they cared and wanted to help my daughter, they answered all her questions in regards to her dual credit, taking the AP test or not, what she needed to take next year. We brought all her transcripts for HS and Dual Credit, they converted the classes into TAMU courses, make the most of your trip and meet with everyone relative to your situation, you will feel like a huge weight has been lifted because you will walk out with a plan of action.

I have an appointment with a computer science adviser this Friday, so I'll be sure to ask him all of the necessary questions regarding coursework. Also, TAMU Admissions, what is the average acceptance rate for transfer students? Like for example what are the chances of transferring with a 3.5 at Blinn? I just really do not want to go through what I went through this year of playing the 5 month waiting game, and would like to know that I will for sure get accepted. Thanks again both of you for the helpful replies.

Each academic dept. makes their own decisions for transfer applicants. So the acceptance rate varies widely between depts. Counselors in our PSC (979-458-0950) work closely with the academic depts. and have a pretty good idea of what each dept. is looking for. Another helpful place to look is at the individual course sheet for your academic dept. at http://admissions.tamu.edu/transfer/majors. They generally look for who has the highest GPA and best completion of the courses on their course sheet. However, they often provide further info specific to their dept. on the course sheet.
