I've been working as an engineer for about 9 years and my new employer is keen on having its employees as PE's.

I have absolutely no desire to take an 8 hour FE test + another 8 hour PE test (and all the studying that comes along with it).

It looks like I can get a waiver if I have 5 references from currently licensed PE's. Does anyone have any experience with requesting this waiver (successfully)?

You can get a waiver for the FE exam if you meet the requirements of section 133.69 of the Texas Engineering Practice Act and Rules, but you CANNOT get a waiver for the PE exam unless you are a former Texas PE license holder or hold a current PE license in another state. Also, engineering educators have certain exemptions.

Are you civil?

I would look into the course review for the PE exam. They usually run $1500 or so, but maybe your employer will cover it.

I second the course review. It's like going to an A+ refresher. Helped me pass the PE first shot and worth every penny cause I didn't have to waste time studying and doing it again. As for the FE, took it while still in college. It was a breeze then but after being out of school for 6 years .... Maybe a different story.
