How long do you want to ignore this user?
Today I received a letter advising I have been accepted into the Blinn TEAM program. Is there a chance my admission status will be upgraded to full before the fall semester? Is it better to be accepted inot this program or be put on the wait list? Will I be able to get on campus housing? DOes everyone who is not accepted to A&M as a full time student get this offer?

1. No
2. If your admitted into Blinn Team, you are provided the amenities of being an A&M student including on campus housing and sporting events. Blinn
3. Yes.

Its not a bad way to get your more difficult non major specific courses like bio acct chem engl span etc out of the way. Congrats!

Congratulations on Blinn Team. It is a great path to becoming an Aggie. My daughter is a freshman this year at A&M. She has many friends who were accepted into A&M but she also has several friends that are taking a different path to get into A&M. Whatever the path may be, they all seem to be very happy.

1. Gateway - She only has one friend that is on this path. They went to classes at A&M this summer and were required to make a certain gpa to stay in the fall. This is a great path because they have a great support system with these students not only during the summer but also during their entire first year.

2. Blinn Team - She has several friends taking this path. These students have taken the majority of their classes at Blinn and one class at A&M. They have all the rights and privileges of a regular A&M student. The only difference to the student is they take the majority of their classes at Blinn. The only difference for the parent is the tuition is cheaper at Blinn (nice little benefit).

3. Blinn - If you are a student who has their heart set on going to A&M this is an awesome route to take. If you attend the Bryan campus, you will live somewhere that is near many other A&M and Blinn students. The Brenham campus has good housing and is close enough to hang out in College Station with your friends on the weekend. Some people say the classes at Blinn are easier but having experience with a child at A&M and Blinn, I'm not sure the classes are necessarily easier but the access to the professors with smaller class sizes at Blinn make appear to be easier. My children took Biology during the same semester...one at Blinn and one at A&M. They used the same textbook and basically did the same labs. The biology exams were scheduled roughly during the same week and covered similar material. Neither one seemed to be easier or harder than the other. As a parent, I enjoyed the cheaper tuition of Blinn.

So my point of all this rambling is that if you want to be an Aggie, there are many great routes to becoming an Aggie. Take the Blinn Team offer. It is a great opportunity which is only offered to a few hundred students. Enjoy the benefits of being an Aggie with Blinn Team which include going to Fish Camp, participating in intramurals but more importantly buying that Sports Pass to attend Aggie football. Best of luck to you!!

Oops! Sorry. I forgot to mention one other great path to A&M.

It is A&M Galveston. My son has a friend that started at A&M Galveston last year and transferred to A&M College Station this year. He said he really loved the Galveston campus. The class sizes were small. He also had a group of friends that traveled to College Station on the weekends for some great Aggie tailgating and football games.

Packey, Congratulations on the Blinn Team.

With that said, please communicate with SaxxeyAggie on this forum who is a counselor and get the pros and cons between the Blinn Team and attending A&M Galveston.

I'm a proponent of Galveston for those whose heart is to make it to Aggieland and graduate with an Aggie ring. It doesn't require as a high a GPA plus it's not considered a transfer but instead just a change in majors as you're already part of the main A&M school.

Good luck!

I did Blinn Team. Worked out well. I don't know how times have changed but one of my friends was upgraded to admitted after being accepted to Blinn team and another friend did not get am invitation for Blinn team.

Take it for what it's worth. You can use rec center, have a sports pass for all athletics, join any organization, etc. You don't have to have a 3.0 at both schools at the end of 2 years to be admitted but you do to be admitted automatically. (I am assuming the rules haven't changed so don't quote me on any of this)

I did Blinn Team and it was a blessing. Got my hard classes out of the way. Worked hard and fully transfered into the Architecture program after my freshmen year. All the benefits of an A&M student minus the hard freshmem classes.

Packey79,
If you haven't done so shoot me an e-mail with your information so I can reference your file to see what options you do have. I am off today and will be back in the office on Friday afternoon and I will be more then happy to assist you with your options. I'll look for your e-mail Friday when I get into the office.

Great summery of some of the options available. I will say that with the transfer route we do not have a preference on where the student attends. Just always work with our office from the start.

On the down side, I think Blinn Team is a trap for the unwary. College life is seductive, and you have to work hard to make your grades to transfer in.

Galveston is an alternative. It's small, small classes, great students, awesome atmosphere and quite easy to transfer to CS for those who want.

They are Aggies - they get great football seats if you buy the sports pass, keep the traditions, etc. The acceptance rate is 91% down there.

It's took late for this fall (I think) but it's a great place for anyone looking for a backdoor way to get to CS and be an Ag from day 1.

It is not too late for Galveston. The deadline via Apply Texas is 7/29/2011.

I did Blinn Team and am graduating in May with an engineering degree. It was wonderful it helps you to get your hard classes out of the way, have all of the benefits of an A&M student (sports pass/rec membership/on campus housing), and it is much cheaper than taking all your classes at a&m your first year or too.

In addition you really arn't limited to 5 hours or one class at A&M. If you get approval from the advisor you can take 6 (never tried for 7) hours at A&M.

Great program, definately recommend it.

I did Blinn TEAM and enjoyed it, when I did it I'm pretty sure everybody that didn't get into A&M wasn't offered Blinn TEAM though

It is less likely that TEAM students will be assigned to on-campus housing this fall because Housing is closing three dorms as they prepare to build a big new dorm. TEAM students who plan to be in the Corps will be assigned Corps housing.

I know students on the waitlist aren't officially ranked, but is there any way of getting any indication as to where a person may fall on this list?

Just for the record, I did Galveston over Blinn team and was very happy with it, went to all the games, meet some of my best friends, and the move to College Station only being a "change of major" as opposed to a transfer, the process was super easy.

bks29,
The "waitlist" isn't actually a list (I personally don't like the name because of the confusion), but is another review pool. Once we get the decisions by the students offered admissions and offered options on May 1st we will go back and look at the students that said yes to the waitlist option and admit the most qualified applicants from the applicant pool.

Blinn TEAM cannot possibly be offered to every student not admitted. It would be impossible to honor that offer if made to every student.

Does anyone know how many accepted the offer to be placed on the waitlist for next fall? And/or how many they will be offering the Blinn TEAM?

Saxxeyaggie !!!

my son is waitlisted , what are his chances
rank 12%
1660 SAT
college courses
taking all honors right now
graduating disgishished
on the flip side of app he has , officer of NHS, choir , VP student council, Senior leader of his class, etc

I am a little worried becasue a friend got offered the same thing as he did and he is ranked 27%, SAT 1100 and none of the other that my son has, but his dad was an aggie....

other thing, is the person on a previous post said they already got offered blinn team, i thought those offers would not be made until after full admits were made???

any advice would help

txaggiemom1011,
I wish I could give you chances but just as with the initial application process there are too many variables to know.

As for when the decisions will go out we have been slowly rolling out a small number but expect the majority of the decisions to go out in the next couple of weeks.

Feel free to give me a call tomorrow and we can talk in person about the process.
