I am currently starting my third year at A&M, I applied for financial aid and have gotten some help from the TEXAS grant, but they just cancelled my renewal for having a GPR less than 2.5. I have figured something out to where if I Freshman Grade Exclude 2 classes and take a summer course at my local community college my cumulative gpr will be greater than 2.5. Would the University let me do this and give back the TEXAS grant?

I think, could be wrong, that grade exclusions wont help you in terms of financial aid. They will still include the grade. Contact the financial aid office, they'll know better than anyone on here. And will really do anything they can to make sure you get your money.

The TEXAS grant is issued through Texas A&M. Financial Aid says that grade exclusions are not used in the calculation of Financial Aid eligability, but they do make exceptions in some cases. Do you meet minimum SAP and minmum completion hour criteria? I would second contacting SBS/FA. With that said, most of the A&M scholarships do not allow you to become eligible after losing it. Most have a probationary semester where payment is released, but then drop students for failure to meet terms. Youd have to take an on campus class, factor your GPR using both the grade excluded grades, and then refactor it using the grade received during the summer. That GPR average would then have to be above a 2.5.

Grade exclusions are not factored into your Financial Aid GPR. Courses taken at other institutions do not affect your TAMU GPR.

Just so you have it from the horse's mouth, here is the policy from the registrar.

quote:
Courses for which grades have been excluded will not be taken into account when determining eligibility for a change of major, scholarships, or achievement based awards. However, non-university scholarship committees may recalculate the GPA to include such grades.

Courses excluded under this policy are NOT excluded when determining whether a student is meeting satisfactory academic progress requirements (hours completed) for federal and state financial aid programs.
