Who has taken ochem and actually done well? I'm taking it next semester and have a feeling I'll need all the help I can get.

got "A"s in both semesters.

My best advice. invest in a dry erase board that fits in your backpack and anytime you are just sitting around (which wont be much during ochem or biochem) do some reactions.

I took my book with me everywhere but I was what you might call an "overstudier".

go to SI and the prof reviews. also, if Ali is still around you should go to his test reviews at A+ tutoring.

Good luck. I loved the class (and biochem). these classes actually force you to learn something and reason through it rather then memorizing material.

Just do your work. You'll be fine.

A+ only, barely went to class. Never opened my book. Two Bs.

Have fun; gotta be the worst class I took in BIMS.

This.

I think a lot depends on which prof you had too. With Tiner, I was able to avoid every class except for the tests. I got 2 As, but that doesn't mean you can slack off. It's a very difficult class and you will study a lot.

I should've been a BIMS major then. I'm in biology and ochem was no way in hell close to being my worst. Again, maybe it depends on the prof(and tutoring helped too).

EDIT: Ali at A-plus is the man. He will make this class so much easier than if you studied by yourself. I would definitely buy a season pass.

i got a's very easily, go to class, take notes, and learn the reactions and you'll be fine. Also, take your time on the OWL's.

p.s. A+ is a total waste of money and time. they dont tell you anything that your prof doesn't and they don't teach you anything you cant teach yourself

O-chem gets a bad reputation from everyone because it is the first science class(usually)that you take in college that is completely different than anything you had in high school. Therefore, you have no background learning to fall back on and must learn it from scratch.

The material is not too difficult to understand and actually makes a lot of sense once you learn the concepts. As long as you put some effort into the class and don't expect your professor to spoon feed you the answers to the tests you'll be fine.

Just do your work, go to class when needed, and spend the necessary time studying the material and forget about A+ and all that jazz.

Ochem ain't too bad. Pennington is the 'worst' professor out of the ones at A&M to my knowledge. He's actually a very good teacher but between him and the other one at the time, he was the harder of the two. I had him for both semesters. Cool guy, good teacher, but my friends in the other class were always talking about how ridiculously easy their's was.

You'll learn more out of his class but if you need a good GPA for a professional school then you may as well go for the 'A' rather than the knowledge, as the GPA is all that counts. You can learn what you actually need to know for the MCAT through a book.

I'm not sure exactly how long he's been teaching there but I had him a year and a half ago. Really nice guy, and will help you out.

OChem isn't hard at all if you actually devote some time to it. I come from a 2A high school and took it honors and got As both semesters, just because I devoted the time to it. If you fail the class more than likely its because you didn't care and blew it off, just like any class. If you go into it with the mindset its going to rape you and you have no chance, more than likely it will
