Aggieland Saturday (campus-wide open house) is being held 2/21. Anybody been in past years? Is it worth the drive from DFW to take son who is a JR in High School and will probably be attending A&M.

I went back in 03/04. It's a good time for prospective students to learn more about A&M's education system and student life, outside from football games.

Aggieland Saturday is definitely beneficial to a junior in high school who is interested in attending Texas A&M. Aggieland Saturday is a campus wide open house that is beneficial for any kind of student with interest in Texas A&M, whether that student be a junior in high school, an admitted student, a senior in review, or a transfer student. In addition to campus walking tours and tours of the residence halls, there will also be presentations from the Office of Admissions and Records and Scholarships and Financial Aid that are geared specifically at juniors in high school. This is also a good opportunity to “shop around” different majors and academic colleges, as they will be offering presentations throughout the day, as well.

Please visit http://www.oar.tamu.edu/aggielandSaturday/default.aspx to register to attend and view the schedule of events. It is strongly recommended to print the schedule out prior to arriving on campus and plan out the presentations and tours that are of interest.

For questions please contact Aimee Marquez she can be reached by calling our office.

As a guy who gave a tour for my department in a lab (teaching lab, running equipment): it is what your kid puts in that he will get out.

If they don't really want to be there, they will get nothing out of it, honestly. It is good to see different things and see what the department has to offer, but be warned: everything has rose-colored glasses attached to them. If you are really interested in one thing, corner a student who is giving a tour after everyone leaves and ask questions.

One of my buddies who was still in high school last year stayed with me for aggieland saturday. And despite assuring his mom he'd do the official tour, we went to northgate friday night and then slept in saturday and then played pool in the commons. I think that sold him more on A&M than the tour could have anyway.

my best piece of advice is dress for rain. (almost?) every year since my junior year it's rained that day.

We took my son last year but he pretty much already knew at the time that he wants to come to A&M after high school. It was a beneficial experience for him and my wife.
