I can't believe it.
Petroluem engineers earn much more than chemical and electrical engineers.

If Chem E's actually had talents that were useful outside of oil and gas that number would be much lower.

One thing though that is left out and extremely important. We have to assume that those figures are based on just a Bachelors degree. Several of those fields will not hire without at least a Masters if not PhD.

Yes at A&M BS PETE's are coming out in the $80k plus range (from what I hear). MS Geologists & Geophysicists are doing the same.

I'm ok with being empty inside* as long as I have a sweet ride and a pimpin pad.

*the phrase "empty inside" does not include literal hunger

im pretty sure the average Construction Science graduate is somewhere in the upper 50s and lower 60s. or at least that is what they tell us.

As an EE graduating this Summer, that figure seems a little low to me. Most of my friends that have already graduated or already have job offers come in closer to the 60-65k range.

Nate keep in mind that a lot of A&M's programs (especially engineering) are at the top of the country. Of course our numbers will be higher.

I'm graduating soon with a Masters in EE. According to the Career Center, others in my position are starting at around $70K, but when I mention this to employers I get a strange look. Any suggestions?

You are being told the salary survey numbers which have an upward bias due to self selection. People with crappy salaries aren't as willing to offer up their numbers as their higher payed peers.

I guess they don't teach statistics in Engr?

Yes, staying in Engg is a waste of time. I am trying to get out. Anyway, all engg jobs will be shipped out.
