According to Bureau of Labor Statistics
Total job growth per year
2016 = 2,331,000
2017 = 2,115,000
2018 = 2,286,000
2019 = 1,985,000
2020 = (9,246,000) Covid
2021 = 7,268,000
2022 = 4,526,000
2023 = 2,515,000
2024 = 1,469,000
2025 = 116,000
2026 = 861,000 so far

After years of gaining over 2 million jobs a year in Trump's first term, he hasn't gained 1 million year in the entirety of his second term. And I'm not even counting the year Trump lost over 9 million jobs due to Covid because that was a little out of his control. If you add that in, his first term was a net loss of 2.8 million jobs.
Due to the economic recovery after Covid, Biden gained a total of 15.7 million jobs in his term but again, gaining back most of the jobs lost to Covid wasn't really his fault either.
Nevertheless, Trump 2.0 job creation record has pretty much sucked. His tariffs tossed so much uncertainty into the economy that lots of hiring stopped. He has had negative job growth in seven of the 20 months he's been in office.

2024 the Biden economy was tanking.

2025 and 2026 it was AMF to the illegals.

Voters gave Trump a Big FU on jobs. The Orange Idiot boasts about the stock market, something which very few Americans participate in. It mainly for elites and educateds like us here.

Trump has lost the ability to read the mood of the voters, maybe he has dementia at 80.

How good do these new jobs pay? Don't tell me they are mostly HVAC and plumber jobs. The H1Bs are taking all our 300k jobs and we sit and celebrate this.

Horse ***** This is about 2028. We need to get the economy rocking, good UE numbers, good wages. We need to have a good record for Desantis or Rubio to run on. You are a cheerleader for the Dems with your negative bull**** all the time.

Are you 80 as well? Please read the room.

I am a 3 time Trump voter and he has disappointed me with his unwillingness to cancel H4 EAD (spouse work visa) and OPT (for new foreign grads). He can do it in 2 minutes no Congress needed.
It will open up SO MANY jobs for Americans. Then he launches a long drawn Iran war, instead of going in, making a few strikes claiming mission accomplished, and leaving.

You saw the shellacking the R's got. I have high hopes with DeSantis. I hope he is the candidate. With Rubio. Anyone who will do something about jobs has my vote.

This is the sole reason midterms were lost?

So vote for the side that ruined healthcare, made housing unaffordable, raised prices of groceries, and wants to go toe to toe with O&G. Make that make sense.

IMO, the economy is being propped up largely due to the data center boom. These construction workers are absolutely raking in money....well above inflation. I know of several companies in our specialty sub-contractor market offering incredible wages and they still are having trouble filling the spots.

For jobs that will give them work every day of their lives until they retire or until that one project is done?

We just have to prop up the bubble and keep building data centers everywhere for the next 40 years while we wait on some other innovation to replace the work post AI boom.

A lot more than one project. This has been going on for a while, and not just data centers. I don't disagree with part of your premise but what job gives work everyday of your life? There is no such thing as job security. Everyone is one event, one owners decision, etc from losing their job

Most of that is in a company 401k which they can't pull from without taking a hit. By the way, the economy is so great, the percentage of people actually taking the hit and making emergency withdrawals from their 401ks doubled in the last year.

The problem with the "job" is wages are not keeping up with inflation. As said above, people may have a job or two or three, but they still can't afford gas and groceries. Or rent. Or buy a house.

If someone has two or three jobs and cannot afford gas, groceries, rent or to buy a house, their problem isn't "wages", they have a spending problem. Strange thing, if people cannot afford rent or to buy a house, you would think there would be people sleeping in the streets and park benches. Haven't seen that.

True, but if for so many, as long as they don't screw themselves at their job, they can start working at a company and stay there until they retire. And I've plenty of friends in the private sector who have been at their jobs just as long (almost 20 years) as I have.

I just think that when numbers are being thrown out, they should have all the details with them. I know a lot of people who work two or three jobs to make ends meet.

Would the market see that as three jobs or one?

Four things to note from Friday's US jobs report

1. Foreign-born workers account for all net labor force participation and employment gains since July

2. Manufacturing adds 101,000 jobs since December 2025, leaving net gain of 8,000 under Trump

3. Median and average unemployment spells are longest in about a decade excluding the pandemic

4. Information and finance remain weakest in AI-exposed industries

Then explain 2022.

what about it?

Explain the difference in why it didn't matter to voters in 2022 when inflation was 7%+ and gas was just about as high.

And 2024 was not about inflation or gas prices. It was about Kamala the idiot and illegals.
it did matter. the generic ballot swung 8 points to the right in 2022. it just didn't translate to success in the senate because of gop/trump's elevation of bad candidates candidates like masters, oz, and walker.

the real pain of 2022's inflation was just getting going by the election, as the shock of the cumulative inflationary price increases from covid stimulus spending hadn't been fully absorbed by public sentiment yet. economic frustration peaked in 2023/2024 even as headline inflation eased.

and you're wrong, immigration was secondary to inflation and the economy in 2024.

Don't forget that in 2022, abortion was put on any statewide ballot that Dems could put it on. Women voters swamped the ballot boxes to protect their "right" to kill babies.

Do you understand that something can be "the right thing to do" and not be "popular"? Doing what you think is right for the long term is what leaders should be doing. What they shouldn't be doing is sticking their fingers in the air and worried only about what will get them elected.
