summary

Quote:

The article reports that an Office of the Comptroller of the Currency review examined 100,000 complaints and 50,000 bank records, and found that nine major banks denied or ended services for some customers between 2020 and 2025 because of perceived political, religious, or social viewsor because of "reputation risk."
Examples include JPMorgan Chase's WePay flagging "MAGA" and "America First" terms and closing accounts tied to conservative merchandise; Wells Fargo pressuring a processor to drop a religious nonprofit; and banks restricting services to firearms, oil and gas, and private-prison businesses. The review also found cases involving groups on the left and right, including Capital One refusing services to some partisan organizations.
The OCC says the banks have made changes but have not gone far enough. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced an investigation, while JPMorgan said it had corrected problems with WePay's process and that its policies bar discrimination based on political or religious views. These are findings and claims reported by the Post; the article also includes responses from regulators and a bank.

BOA just caught a huge fine for not looking real hard at possible money laundering. The purpose of the fine is to punish BOA for having done this and to discourage BOA for overlooking money laundering in the future.

All these banks should catch a fine for denying service to businesses and individuals that one political party does not like. Perhaps they will think twice before get involved in politics again.

And then the banks will just turn around and pass the penalties of the fees on to their customer via fees and other charges. We need to stop fining the corporations and fine the individuals making the decisions. That will be the best corrective action.

I love that.

From now on, I will no longer refer to it as the Biden era....but rather the Bidden error.

Also the Oil & Gas companies. The Dems/Libs right now are claiming that they can lower the price of gas & diesel yet they make doing business for the O&G companies almost impossible.

I am actually surprised they did not try to block the RNC from banking services.

What does the national enquirer say? About as reliable as the NY post.

lol @ thinking this resolves it...it'll be back next time the Dems take power.

edit: don't forget, your average everyday democrat was all for it. Just like they were for taking away the children from parents who refused the covid shot.

I have never had issues with Bank of America for actual banking services but it's clear they hate people like me. But what are viable alternatives? The problem with the report is that they found 9 banks that discriminated against Christian and Conservative customers, but they only investigated 9 banks. It doesn't indicate which banks didn't do that, just every bank they looked at did. I was using Discover bank but they were acquired by Capital One, who also made the list.

So if I were to open my own bank, I should be required to accept everyone who wants a bank account?

Only if they're LGBTQ couples. Or is that only for bakeries?

At this point if I came across a cash bag laying in the street from one of those banks loaded with money. I would keep it. If it was a credit union (except University Federal CU ) I would return it.

That is not what happened in this case. They demanded accounts because the Biden fascists told them to do so, solely for political reasons.

Jamie Dimon and Chase actively participated in both the Madhoff and Epstein financial transactions with complete disregard for existing federal law. If he's not in prison and Chase is still in business nothing is going to happen to anyone.

Don't forget that "bread" is often used to refer to money.

I think that's from Cockney Rhyming Slang -- money --> bread and honey --> bread

A good Aggie friend of mine has been doing work for a defense contractor in Tarrant County since around 1983.

About 3 years ago, BoA closed his business account because he was doing business with a defense contractor. After being a 40 year customer.
