Remember this video.

The UC System has some great schools no doubt but they have a rot within them that is being covered up. They literally won't allow any standardized testing to be considered in admissions, it's not voluntary, they will not consider it. They disproportionately accept students from underperforming areas so it makes for very few spots for high performing areas. They also juice their acceptance rate by having their own application system that makes it so that if you apply to one UC School you can apply to several others without additional cost and to all of them for not much more very easily. Thus essentially every kid applies to any UC school applies to virtually all of them and they end up with crazy applications numbers even if they are a mirage.

The video is highlighting some of the rot that has taken place. Profs at Berkeley and UCLA (supposedly the top Public colleges in the country) saying many students can't do remedial math. This is in addition to the scandals around UCLA Med School minority grads being well below par. They have no intention of fixing this.

Ivy Leagues are a joke as well. Far left-wing DEI and social engineering have ruined the traditional good schools.

At least some of the Ivy Leagues are starting to recognize this and moving to bring back standardized testing and stop grade inflation.

Whoa, that's some gold medal winning stupidity there

To a lesser extent though. Ivies are much smaller and have a very different mission and they are still extremely difficult to get admission unless you have an inside track (big donor, celebrity/politician kid, athlete). Even then you have to get over a decent bar. The UC schools are huge and US News now has something like 8 UC schools in the Top 20 Public Universities. They are going all in on social justice admissions and this guy just said the quiet part out loud.

If they need to "catch up" with fundamentals, community college might be a better resource.

students at top universities are at elementary level math, it's the college professors' job to catch them up

Sounds like an ad for private schools. "Get a UC Berkley education for your 3rd grader and at 10% the cost!"

That guy is not just incredibly dumb, but pretty light in the loafers, not that there is anything wrong with that.

I can GUARANTEE this phenomenon at those schools only applies to a subset of students.

I have two boys applying to colleges right now and I cannot express how angry this process has made me. Leftists have taken over nearly every highly ranked college in the US and even with scrutiny from the Trump administration, they blatantly block out many highly qualified white and Asian applicants in favor of less qualified applicants from preferred groups. Look at the percentage of kids at most "elite" universities that are white and you will usually find only 20-30% are white anymore. Those that are slightly higher than 30% are working feverishly to shrink that number as they apologize to their woke academic peers.

Realize at the same time you have kids with insane stats who can't get in. It's part of why doing the Top 10/5% rule is so dumb here because it leads to the same problem. You can be Top 10% at a terrible school and not be college ready, certainly not ready for A&M or Texas.

My youngest faced the same issue; didn't get into his target school nor the Ivies. Luckily he ended up where I think was the best location for him and is truly thriving.

He gets to experience big time sports as well as highly regarded academic program.

Icing on the cake is that he's lined up a summer internship with one of the MBB consulting firms, beating out Stanford and Ivy League peers in the process.

Yeah, but once you are in it's been a joke for some time. And that's because they've let in alot of inferior students plus the general coddling of kids over the last two generations.

I don't know how they actually rank undergrads. I know some professional programs are ranked via a survey of the deans of the professional schools.

Definitely would be worth getting a Minor in it.

It's a consensus racket, like ND football getting overranked every year in spite of only an occasional good season...the same sensibility that made the entire medical profession lie about masks and social distancing.

See the Emperor's New Clothes.

I think what you see is real separation depending on major, not just at Ivies. I know my son looked hard at multiple T20s as he was a strong student (ended up taking a true full ride named scholarship at a T50ish school). The folks at Stanford and Duke and Rice consistently you had the Engineering/STEM kids that were hardcore brilliant and they looked at many of the Liberal Arts kids as a joke. The level of rigor to get into those elite STEM programs is pretty wild now but then you look at the LA side and it's super subjective and Woke, they want SJW's.

I rode many elevators with plenty of Harvard and Wharton MBA's back in the late 90's and even back then, from what I saw, they were all useless jokes and slime-balls. At Enron.

Well, at least in my profession, schools who wanted new facilities would suddenly see their ranking drop and new construction followed shortly thereafter. Happened to A&M.

Everything the left touches it destroys. They control education from pre-k to PhD. No wonder it's in the state it is.

This has been happening for decades. This is what life is like with leftists.

No, its not the responsibility of a college level calculus professor to teach students how to do fractions. The guy in the video is too stupid to breathe.

Lefty college professors made this bed and now they have to lay in it.

There was an article in Fortune magazine recently that said many CEOs are no longer hiring from the Ivy schools.
