There is a really easy fix to this. Prevent them from coming here and make foreign labor expenses non tax deductible.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of being an American company then effing hire Americans. The expansion in Bangalore of American companies is effing disgusting.

What do you think the companies that wind up paying more tax because they lose the deduction for foreign labor expenses will do because of that?

close shop? That doesn't scare me. Go ahead, make my day.

The crackdown has been amazing, net.

More at the thread(s).

These cuts to legal immigration are harming US citizens seeking to reunite with their spouses, fiancs, children, and other relatives. They are also undermining US prosperity and increasing the US deficit. But they also illustrate the central misconception about the Trump administration's immigration agenda. It is not about stopping "illegal" immigration. It is a broader assault on all types of immigration. As Americans debate the path forward on immigration, that's a reality everyone should understand.

Cato can cry all they want. I voted for this.

Good. You want to benefit off cheap Indian labor then move your company to India.

But if you want to exist in the United States then you need to hire and pay for American labor.

Abusing a government program to exploit 3rd world labor at the expense of US citizens absolutely must end

Microsoft has a ton of offices in India and overseas.

This might work in the short term (and is a great first step) but we need US jobs to stay here. We need to make it compelling for jobs to be created in the US. Right now, government is strangling job creation at the federal and state levels.

Are they US jobs when they bring people from other countries here on visas? I say no. Americans = US jobs.

Talking about overseas jobs.
Microsoft has about 150K employees in the US, and about 100K worldwide.

We want that 150K to remain in the US and grow, even if H1s are gone. That is a tall ask. you can bet MS is already looking at moving former H1b jobs overseas.
It would be the financially prudent thing to do.

Keeping them here, requires work from the US Gov.

I am not as charitable or nice as you are.
My solution is simple. If you want to stay in the US, then PAY UP. If not, the GTFO to India or Bangladesh.
Pay to play. If you want to offshore while staying an American company, then pay up. Sure hire abroad, but you will pay 150% of an equivalent US salary as tax. I am sure some version of that is coming.

I hope they can close the loop on outsourcing. I'm sick if it. These people all suck.

Yes. I don't believe that Trump and Co are that dumb that they close the loopholes here in the US and then allow a party to go on in India like it's 1999.

They are going all in. They cannot withdraw without looking like jackasses.

My view is they are cleaning out the US first. For now, they are okay if companies expand offshoring. Get the illegals and fraudster H1Bs to leave. Deport. At the same time penalize fraudster US companies like microsoft etc and hopefully all these CEOs (very important, that is the head of the snake). These companies think they are clever and will increase jobs to India. that is when Trump will strike and say something like "offshore all you want, but each job will be mapped to an equivalent US job/salary, you will pay a US salary as a fee. Minimum of $100k. Go, and run loose."

I can see why he isn't doing all of this at the same time. US corps is so drugged on H1B that if cheap labor that if removed all of a sudden, it could case a stock market/economy crash. So has to be done in slow phases so industry and markets can adjust. I agree.

I am glad the Trump administration has started cracking down on H1-B visas. The corporations claiming they can't find enough Americans with specialized skills are looking to decrease labor costs by gaming the H-1B visa system. The Visa Scam betrays Americans through endless cycles of going back and forth between visas until the foreign workers get an H1-B visa and explains why the corporations, governmental entities, and the universities are all in the scam.

Now start looking into the supermajor oil and gas corporations. The influx of Indian engineers is out of control. They aren't good at their jobs and design terrible facilities. It's ridiculous.

Ties back to US Politicians and US CEOs.

Now you see why CEOs are to be disparaged. But politicians even more so.

Everything I said here years ago is proving true now. Thank you.

Right. Same thing happened in tech.

Some Boomers whose minds are stuck in 1976 ask
Quote:

why did they get hired if they aren't good??... maybe you aren't good enough.... WORK HARDER...

and then the obligatory "if you can't cut it, do HVAC".

This goes beyond just working hard and being good at one's job. You can be all that and still not get hired and be replaced by a 3rd world slug. That is because some flaws in our existing corporate setup have been discovered now that were not earlier, or were considered inappropriate earlier. Now it is kosher to do and explain away with "greed is good" and "capitalism". Our laws are outdated and do not take care of current exploitation. Congress needs to act.

Wake up. We are in 2026, not 1976.

J1 visa holders, including postdocs and research assistants, receive their compensation through grant funding rather than university operating budgets. Graduate students serving as teaching assistants are already accounted for in the budget, while international students are brought on board only after exploring all available domestic candidates. Finding the right people for TA roles is essential, you can't simply assign a fine arts graduate to teach chemistry, for instance. These teaching assistant positions need to be filled, otherwise certain courses won't be offered. Universities don't reallocate funds from domestic programs to pay for international student teaching assistants.

Why do our universities (and some pols) love internationals so much?

My guess is "White Man's Guilt".

We love to imagine ourselves as lucky and privileged and have to share it with the "unwashed heathens" of the world. So we open our doors to all kinds of cretins.

They don't even pay full price, we pay for their education and they come and steal our jobs through their scammy pipelines.

The matter is fundamentally straightforward in nature. It constitutes a quantitative challenge. The pool of qualified domestically-born and educated students represents a finite resource. The student populations in India and China respectively exceed those of the United States by a factor of six. The quantity of available academic positions substantially surpasses the number of qualified native-born students capable of fulfilling such roles.

As previously noted, the absence of teaching assistants would necessitate the discontinuation of numerous courses, thereby resulting in a diminished quality of undergraduate education.

According to whom? I didn't have a single foreign TA at A&M that was worth a damn. Many spoke so little broken English I just skipped class and went to Tutor John instead, or I q dropped and took the class at Blinn with someone who could actually tech the subject.

They may offer value in some majors, but it's insane people have to pay for tuition and a tutor because the person "teaching" the section can't communicate.

An instructor or professor may conduct instruction for as many as two to three hundred students (or more) simultaneously, excluding laboratory sessions. A solitary individual cannot reasonably manage such an extensive course. The course requires qualified assistants; without their support, the course cannot proceed and must consequently be cancelled. Given that numerous such courses constitute degree requirements, the cancellation of these courses will precipitate prolonged academic disruptions.

The linguistic challenge has garnered considerable attention. Rigorous language proficiency assessments are implemented, and the graduate program currently enrolls an increasing number of students originating from nations where English functions as a secondary language. However there will always be some TAs that will fail to communicate, both foreign and native.
