I hope it really picks up steam. They need to come to Texas next. This can not get swept under the rug.

J1 student visas have been a very large driving force behind the exponential rise in the cost of attending college. Along with 100% federally backed student loans, J1 visas have allowed for vast numbers of foreign students to attend college in the US. There's a dichotomy- these students might pay increased tuition which is backed by their home nation's government as they are expected to graduate and return to work for that government OR they're heavily subsidized by the universities here in the US and those costs borne by the average student.

F* Cognizant. I listened to their CEO straight up lie on CNBC about how they were not doing H1Bs and were actually doing the opposite by hiring US college graduate citizens while everyone was doing the opposite. This conversation was in context of how they were approaching AI.

This is great.

But what's going to stop Microsoft from just moving these jobs overseas?

Good. You want to benefit off cheap Indian labor then move your company to India.

But if you want to exist in the United States then you need to hire and pay for American labor.

Abusing a government program to exploit 3rd world labor at the expense of US citizens absolutely must end

Nothing is stopping them

But at the same time they aren't mass importing low wage exploited labor and their entire extended family into the US to lower their business costs while driving up our costs for housing food, HC etc to hollow out the middle class.

Microsoft has a ton of offices in India and overseas.

This might work in the short term (and is a great first step) but we need US jobs to stay here. We need to make it compelling for jobs to be created in the US. Right now, government is strangling job creation at the federal and state levels.

They did freeze their PERM programs, they can no longer sponsor employees for green cards.
Great start.

I think the government will back down a little, and instead allow it for a very high fee. Lets see if the employee is really worth it

Cognizant is US headquartered but its pretty much an Indian company, even in the US. They do software systems integration projects for our customers all the time and its nothing but Indians, US included.

Why has it taken this long? If a democrat gets elected in '28 they'll turn the spigot back on.

100% of the jobs won't stay in the US, but they all won't got overseas, either. Even with all the advances in remote work, there are still downsides to it, and people will be required to still be local. There's still a huge language and cultural barrier as well. There's a reason all of these IT consulting companies still have people in the US close to the clients.

Nothing.

Good to see, but smells of "okay, the midterms don't look good for us, so what could we have done last year that if we do now will make people want to go out and vote for our people?"

Southwest Airlines, who barely even flies internationally, outsourced their IT department to India recently. Went around H1B by simply opening a "subsidiary" in India where a lot of their IT work is done.

And guess who spearheaded that? The Indian guy they added to the board who was President of the BoD.

Just a complete betrayal of America, IMO.

Well why dont they do that now? Why risk the marketing and potential legal penalties by bringing them stateside?

There had to be a reason already why they didn't want to do that. These people are greedy, not dumb.

For the record, I don't care if this breaks half of the tech companies in America. I couldn't care less about those companies, or their shareholders. They need to be put up against a wall until this purge is complete.

Convenient election-year headlines to fool people into thinking there's an H-1B crackdown. This only suspends PERM, a program companies use to sponsor foreign workers for green cards.

These companies can still hire and renew H-1B workers, many of whom can stay for decades through extensions. So it doesn't directly restrict H-1B hiring. Just more theater than actual reform.

Maybe there should be a tariff on MS Teams calls in America that connect to foreign servers.

Based on your username. I am assuming you are an Indian. So should we put Americans first or do you think Indians should be given jobs where Americans are completely cut out of the loop by tech companies and Indian hiring agencies ? obviously you know where my loyalties lie.
