And? The SC says states need to take care of their elections. Maybe this gets to them and they change their mind or clarify, but that seems to be the precedent right now

It is an extremely precarious contention that the Federal government can enforce laws that restrict states from making it illegal for colored people to vote in Federal elections, but cannot enforce laws making it illegal for illegal aliens to vote in Federal elections, disenfranchising citizen voters.

The issue is ripe for SCOTUS to weigh in on, and this SCOTUS has shown some willingness to acknowledge that laws that illegally favor minorities have an illegal impact on the majority.
