This is why it should be federally legalized and heavily regulated. You're not getting rid of weed any time soon and I would rather the potheads not be poisoned by the Chinese.

you'd probably still put ranch AND salsa on it.

The Chinese aspect of it probably wasn't high on the list but the notion that legalization would somehow remove the black market aspect from the equation was always utterly laughable and, as you stated, completely predictable.
Drugs have had as much to do with the decay of this country as anything…and may be higher on the list than I'm giving them credit for.
That's a portion of the populace that I will never support or have any sympathy for. Absolute destructive losers.

"Legalization turns into a bonanza for illegal gangs".
How does an illegal grower part of "legalization"?
And if California, like OK, are not policing their legal growers effectively, then how would they have ever hoped to police illegal growers?
The point is that a problem was made worse.
And it's the least surprising thing ever. 100% foreseeable by everyone who isn't a pothead or Libertarian.
Yes, anyone and everyone that uses marijuana is a pothead. It's used either every day or none of the time by people, no in between.

Especially when you tax it so damn high like CA and CO do. Pretty much only the rich and "weed tourists" buy legally there.

I've always wondered what if the bad guys who deal in drugs around the world decided to kill Americans all at one time by lacing the drugs they sell into this nation with kill all. How many people would die before the word got around that shat is laced at apocalyptic levels?
This would slow things down for some time and lots of people would be out long term on the use of drugs, but people be doing that shat again before long. Just like 9/11, how soon we forget.

Other than it's not helpful to link a suspect article and then include a wall of text with no summary, I am struggling to how an illegal Chinese grow operation in California is impacting legal marijuana production and retail.
Can the OP share more on the connection? Now Oklahoma has some actual issues with Chinese overtaking local licensed growers and getting their weed into the "legal" supply which has resulted in many shunning OK weed as it's not okay.
Like with AI, the article is straight up fear porn designed to trick low information folks into being against something because someone told them lies about it being bad.
Folks, do your own research on any drugs you consume, particularly ones prescribed by compensated physicians and supported by billion dollar ad campaigns.

Legalization creates a legal market for marijuana and means people can simply walk around with it and buy it/sell it in the open. If you're going to a dispensary, there are plenty of taxes and regulations involved that make it expensive, but you can go to a dealer with a network established before legalization and buy tax free.
Criminals have a field day with it because now they're only guilty of tax evasion, which is much harder to investigate and prosecute than possession of a controlled substance. Licensing has the same problem as determining who has a driver's license on the road: Driving is legal and ubiquitous, so you assume everyone does until you pull them over and ask. It's easy to blend in. The whole thing makes it much easier for them to operate.
