It's also the current AI companies trying to get grandfathered into any prohibitive laws they want enacted, just so they lock in their part of the market and limit competition.

That is why I am always for MORE regulation on corporations, not less.

Why?

Because I don't trust them. They don't deserve to exist with less regulation in a high trust society like America. They are like 3rd worlders who need rules spelling out each and every thing because they have no moral compass and by default are scammy.

Now all my predictions are coming true.

To me, AI seems like a damned if we do, damned if we don't kind of thing for us.

Watched this last night and had to throw this into this thread. New AI documentary about everything being discussed here. Funny how the guaranteed doomers all seem to have no kids (and more than likely religion), and AI is their god.

What worries me most is this race to AgI and how everyone agrees that the companies or countries who cut corners and worry less about security, privacy and risk will win and could have the ultimate power.

It's interesting that the Republican play here is to say that AI is nothing to be concerned about, the data centers need to proceed as quickly as possible with no government overside her regulation beyond what we have now. The AI companies themselves should not have any further government regulation.

We'll see how this plays out in November and afterward.

This is all you need to know about this AI fear mongering in one simple photo headline.

...It's easy, before a million things happen, to draw a straight line from a new technology to the end of the world...

...it's hard to imagine Congress legislating usefully or intelligentlyor at all...

...But what does it even mean when, facing a sudden political prairie fire, industry leaders say they will be pausing or pacing their progress? If CEOs doubt their ability to control their next models even in the lab, which may be the case, they already have every incentive not to proceed until they can...

...But there's something else going on we need to talk about. We find ourselves stumbling repeatedly through what I might call Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez moments, having to laugh off our own prolonged losses of perspective. The examples have been many latelynot just "woke 1," but Russiagate, Covid lockdowns, UFOs, trans surgeries for teens...

So what is the normal person who doesn't pay much attention to AI or any of this supposed to do?

Buckle up for the stock market crash? JK, I Honestly haven't the slightest clue. I'm just going to keep living my life, but also stacking G&A in case SHTF at some pt.

I've taken out 2 years living expenses in cash.
The rest is in the market. So I am good riding any crash through.
No debt. Zero.

It took me a LOOONG TIME to get here though.

Props...I need to step up my game to get like you, unc

All of these tech CEOs are psychopathic liars.

The reality is these LLM companies are losing tons of money and may go bankrupt. Tech companies are net negative cash flow for the first time in decades with their AI build outs. LLMs can't reason or birth AGI just by layering them or multiplying the number of agents.

Go on Youtube and listen to Cal Newport and Ed Zitron to get the counter argument to the AI-doomer tech bros.

So we just completely cede to China? Who can funnel basically unlimited government resources into it?

This almost feels like the next "space race" to me.
