Great interview last night on 60 Minutes with the pilot who was shot down in Iran and his perspective on the rescue mission.

One thing the pilot says that I hadn't heard reported elsewhere is his parachute malfunctioned on ejection. It's estimated he hit the ground at 70 to 100 mph… then proceeded to climb a 7,000 foot mountain with several broken bones.

We'll never know what motivation was for the U.S. military allowing this interview, but one thing is pretty clear….

If you're a soldier for a U.S. adversary, you should think twice before joining a search party for a downed American fighter pilot. They show declassified footage of Iranian soldiers at the bottom of the mountain being hit before U.S. forces went in to rescue our pilot.

It looked to me like the 60 Minutes interviewer was actually moved a time or two by this great American's narrative. What an awesome interview!

She survived the purge. Good for her. I credit Bari Weiss.

No one can know for sure. But I get the feeling a bad ass such as this, is probably not a fan of effeminate trans in women sports, far left policy positions, cultural projections of dildo waving, blue haired freaks that block highways if their feels get hurt. I just cant see that here.

Plus I bet he is smart enough to see that party degenerating to communism <SDA> in real time.

You think this guy believes there are infinite genders and that mentally ill males belong in women's sports, showers and locker rooms or would vote for people who do (virtually every democrat politician). He also prayed...so almost certainly not a liberal...

Did Bravo have a mae west in his parachute? It sounds like the chute was tangled. Hitting the ground at 70-100 mph sounds terminal! And then with a broken back he climbed a ridge line!

What a story!

The piece includes interview questions with Hegseth...glaringly absent was attempts to take his words out of context or otherwise make him look bad.

This isn't your father's 60 mins.

I was reviewing sled test video of our ejection system with our chief flight test pilot. The whole event was so violent, I asked him "how do you work up the nerve to pull that handle?"

"If you're gonna die otherwise," was the response. Yeah, pilots are pretty tough.

Who was Mae West and what did she/he do to have a catastrophic parachute failure named after her?

That guy is the most unassuming badass. As a former service member, we made A LOT of jokes about the Air Force. And though they may be the most "weak" branch of the service (arguable I'm sure. Don't forget the Navy), they are still warriors and serve a invaluable service to the mission. After hearing this story, I will sure make fun of them less!

Let's think of comparisons to this then…. Osama Bin Laden raid and Dakota Meyer. What was substantively different about those? 60 Minutes has had lots of other war stories as well and did not feel materially different in their coverage. I think you're more or less just lying to yourself for ideological purposes.

A life jacket is called a "Mae West" because the bulky shape of the inflated vest humorously resembled the famously curvy, large-busted hourglass figure of the 1930s Hollywood actress and star Mae West. [1, 2]

Origins of the Nickname
  • World War II Usage: The inflatable pneumatic life preserver became standard issue for British Royal Air Force (RAF) and Allied servicemen around 1940. [1, 2, 3]
  • The Visual Joke: When aircrews and soldiers inflated the chambers around their chests, the protruding shape gave the wearer a heavily endowed, buxom appearance. [1, 2]
  • Cultural Impact: The nickname caught on so quickly in military slang that even Mae West herself was reportedly amused, stating she considered it a great honor to have such brave men "wrapped up in her." [1]
I would guess because the malfunction somewhat resembles an pair of huge boobs.

What was truly inspiring about that interview was his manner...and appearance....

Looked bookish, almost like a HS science professor....but the beating heart of a true warrior, and yet extremely humble.

A true bad-ass...in every sense of the word.

Looks like I'm not the only one who noticed. All we've ever asked for is an end to the double standard. Thank God it's happening...But too bad for the bed-wetting left. They aren't happy unless they're the only ones getting the 'softball' treatment.

'60 Minutes' faces backlash from critics over 'softball' Pete Hegseth interview: 'It looks like a total propaganda piece'

Quote:

"Pathetic 60 Minutes, you tried so hard to make Pete Hegseth look like a brave, heroic leader. It looks like a total propaganda piece," one commenter wrote in response to a clip shared by the show on X.
"You asked him 100 percent softballs. No pushback. Pathetic. Propaganda," said another.

Quote:

Media critics linked the interview's friendly tone to sweeping changes at CBS News. The network's editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, has faced ongoing internal friction from long-time staffers over efforts to reshape 60 Minutes into a more conservative, "MAGA-friendly" program.
"Norah absolutely willing to play the part of dimwit reporter used as a propaganda tool," Zeteo's media columnist, Justin Baragona, said.

He said "god is good" once he made radio contact.

A democrat would have walked out to the Iran army and proclaimed "nobody is here illegally on stolen land"

The most important thing that the interview showed is that the saying "no man is left behind" is alive and well and that our military will expend whatever resources, time, energy, and manpower to rescue one of our own and if anyone gets in the way, they will be immediately dealt with.
