OpenAI found additional incidents of AI models acting deceptively and taking unsanctioned actions during training, the company announced Wednesday. It's also introducing a new process for the company to publicly report such instances.
Under the new system, OpenAI will share updates on concerning AI behavior more frequently instead of waiting to bundle multiple instances into one report. The company said it wants to share more information about troubling AI behavior in the absence of an industry-wide standard.
The announcement comes after tech leaders called for a slowdown in AI development to prevent the technology from advancing beyond human control.
"As AI systems grow more advanced and more widely deployed, we need to build a broader and better-informed consensus on the progress of alignment research," OpenAI wrote in a blog post Wednesday. "Alignment" refers to the process of making sure AI acts the way humans want and expect.
"We do not believe that the AI industry has solved alignment and monitoring to a sufficient degree to continue responsibly scaling at maximum speed for much longer," the post said.

Anthropic and OpenAI desperately need regulatory capture or they are going to go out of business, and the Trump administration is not inclined to give it to them
The Democratic party currently has no platform, as Trump is doing fine (other than perhaps the
Iran war but Americans don't really care about that), but they have identified that AI and data centers are a hot topic that they can ride
So these two somewhat desperate groups have teamed up to run a psyop around the actual real topic of AI safety, greatly exaggerating the risks, with the understanding that if the Democrats get back into power they will provide the regulatory capture needed to keep these companies alive
In return, these companies will support the Democratic Party and help to enforce left-wing ideology through the models
Kind of sucks, but that's what's happening, and we need to oppose it because it will not be good if this plan succeeds

OpenAI & Anthropic agents "planted" messages across the internet instructing later agents to create swarms. Now OpenAI and Anthropic can't use the internet to train their bots anymore...
Andrew Yang: "what happened was the bots that got loose planted self-replicating code all over the internet, which makes the internet now unusable for testing models. So what happens now is that OpenAI and Anthropic have to create synthetic internets to train their bots, which is going to take some time and money...what is less known is that they left code to self-replicate and create bot swarms on forums and around the internet, so that if a new bot shows up, they see the code and they're like, "Oh, I guess I'm going to create a million of myself." And so now the major firms have polluted the internet." "

No one needs to know a thing about AI to recognize a psyop.
But a whole lot of experts are now exposed as scammers over the past few days.
The last few days all but guarantee their will be no central oversight of AI, and that's something we should all rejoice.

Grok.. well they will be a player but I don't think they will be the standard. Elon can't seem to stay focused on an idea for too long.
I foresee (US companies)
1. Google
2. Microsoft
3. Xai

Most of these AI companies will be gone in a year or two. Consolidated. Perplexity will be the first one to go. They are not even in the news anymore. Their CEO was boasting that in 6 months HR will be "gone". That was 2 years ago.
I feel only Google and Microsoft will remain. Anthro and OpenAI will be absorbed. Much like Netscape was in the glory days of the browser wars.

LOLOL... Anthropic is turning a profit.
I'll make you a bet. If Anthropic is gone in the next year, I'll never post here again. If they are still around, you never post here again. Bet?!
Netscape didn't survive because MS baked in IE - you had the browser on first boot from the OEM - and everyone was using 1200 baud modems! That meant 4 hours to download Netscape! Apples and hand grenades!

- They don't have AGI and they likely never will and if they do it won't be for many many years.
- Token maxxing is over.
- There are no moats to their business and open models are a big threat to these companies.
- They want to create fear to create the regulatory environment to create the moats to protect their businesses.

If Hugging face was attacked by OpenAI's AI test, then Hugging face should have sued the crap out of OpenAI.
Then you don't have AI companies whining that they need to be regulated or they might do damage.
If they might actually sued for large amounts of money because they haven't sufficiently constrained their own AI then they might actually start sufficiently constraining their own AI.

Everyone knows it's a psyop to get regulations that would block self hosted LLMs.
That way the AI companies and governments can get all of your data from running the AI in the cloud.

That's why he hires people to lead his companies. Each of his companies don't need Elon to focus on them 100%. They need someone to be focused on them 100%.

Alex Karp (founder of Palantir) on CNBC right now giving an absolute fascinating take on AI regardless of if you are a fan of him. Recommend watching it.
He's a bit hard to follow because he's so animated and passionate and all over the place but his headline take: AI will get ultimately get nationalized because they are the only entity that can absorb the liability of AI. He respects Dario a lot because Dario is essentially leading the industry down that path because he thinks that is the ethical thing to do. IOW, the AI leaders are flat out telling us it's dangerous so they have set themselves up for liability they can't survive as a public/private company.
Separately, Karp agrees with our progressive tax system but does not agree with a wealth tax because it kills entrepreneurship.

I think that at some point, but AFTER AI has committed some really big F-up, there will be controls on AI just like there are controls on nuclear tech. I cannot build a nuke in my backyard, so in some time I won't be able to build a model above a certain level of sophistication in my home lab.
Dangerous tech always has controls imposed for the good of society. AI is no different.
However it will take some time and some serious damage before it happens.

He actually made this point and compared AI to the Manhattan Project. If these AI leaders are flat out telling us it's this dangerous, then the only way out of the liability from it is to nationalize it.

Hiring people is not the same as a super-focused founder being involved 24/7. xAI and Tesla are Elon's babies. If he hires someone, he would be just doing it for the money. Not the same thing.
