Have I missed his statement in LSU? I see all the other state AGs making comments, but haven't heard a peep from him. He wouldn't shut up about Tech, why is not speaking up for A&M's or tu's interests?

Likely because no one has paid him to do so yet.

Because he has more important things to deal with than what a football team in another state is doing with their roster

Ok, I guess Ken can't multi-task like the other AGs. What has Mayes Middleton said then?

In his defense, it is hard for him to know his position on it until a check clears.

I think he has to be pretty careful on this. It's not in Texas, but I read as well that Robert Francis O'rourke would have won with 51.8 percent last time he ran, but for East Texas voters. Needless to say, we have a lot of Cajun fans in the state and it's a political hot potato to piss on them over this from his job as a lot of the LSU fans are republicans. Plus, nothing would get decided in litigation before November anyway.

Although the NCAA is functionally broken (to say the least), I think the SEC is the appropriate body to handle this litigation/matter, not the Texas AG. Jmho.

I agree - East Texas is the path to victory for Paxton. Republicans need to run it up there.

Plus, this is a no win issue. It's an out of state school with a lot of fans that live in Texas. But there are also other fanbases of several large schools, A&M included, that would feel just the opposite of LSU alum. All of them are voters. It's a political hot potato because any way you go, you will alienate a voting block.

Better to stay silent and let the conference and the Cajuns figure it out. Paxton is smart to steer clear.

To be fair, it was politically stupid to get involved with the Tech fiasco too, despite the payoff, yet he did it anyway.

Yeah, but Tech is an in state school. And it's Tech, so the number of people that give a rip is significantly less.

Tech is a state school that was being threatened by out of state schools. Like it or not, he had a legit role in that dispute. LSU is not a Texas state university and there is no legit reason for him to speak out about it at all.

Sure, Tech is a state school, but they were attempting to bypass rules set by their conference to forbid a known gambler, who bet on his own team, from playing. There are just as many TX voters opposed to allowing Sorsby to play as Tech voters who would want to win at any cost. It was stupid for Paxton to pick a side in this one.

Do you really believe Paxton would have publicly defended Tech if Campbell had not paid him?

Last I checked, A&M and tu were state schools, don't they have an interest in their conference members acting fairly?

Tech had out of state schools threatening to punish them in violation of conference contracts signed with the school. I don't think it needed Paxton's input, but at least it has a connection where the state's AG stepping in would be appropriate. LSU doesn't have a contract directly with A&M or tu that says they won't play NFL players on the team. The beef is between LSU and the conference. Yes, we are members of that conference, but there is no direct legal or contractual issue between LSU and A&M/tu that would invite the AG's involvement IMO.

So A&M wouldn't suffer irreparable harm by LSU playing pro players in their game in 3 weeks possibly damaging our playoff chances?

Sure they would. But that is not a state to state matter. It is something A&M and the SEC need to work out, and by all current indications, the SEC and A&M are on the same side in the matter against LSU.
