A newly minted Darwin Award winner was struck by multiple vehicles while riding a scooter against traffic on Mopac at 5am earlier this week.

KXAN asking the tough questions here, who is really to blame?

That statement sounds like Mayor Brandon in Chicago blaming the car companies for not making catalytic converters harder to steal. He actually sued them and they settled out of court.

What? This doesn't even make sense. There's no "should" or "should not" about a transportation system. It just is. If you want a transportation system where people can actually get places, it will involve high speeds, and it will involve the potential for somebody making a bad decision and dying. This is typical left wing bull****….trying to impute a moral connotation to the ****ing highways so they can justify some kind of law or regulation to fix a non-problem. **** off.

There are multiple intersections in and around Austin where a bike lane is located between a right hand turn lane and the main traffic lanes, some on a highway feeder.

As a pedestrian my extreme hatred of bicyclists has been surpassed by scooters. I didnt think that was possible, but they're combined to be the most self-centered and indifferent jerks in the world.

When I lived in SF, bicyclists used to pick and choose the rules they followed, and would even drive in 3 lane (each way) major roads through the city, and would change lanes in and out as if they're a car through heavy traffic. More than a few times I wanted to give one a little bump with my car while all his friends were watching. He gets a little banged up and ill take the hit with a dented car and maybe a few days in jail, but all his friends who saw...well this is the only way to learn. A little pain, but it may need to be repeated a few times until they get the hint that trying to be a bike amongst cars in traffic is a bad idea. And now scooters have taken that to a whole other level.

It's hard to figure out a way to handle this issue with bikes and scooters taking up the entire width of streets, including sidewalks, bike lanes, and roads though. Maybe carry some bricks to accidentally drop or something? Since there are literally no rules and enforcement, why would they ever not be *******s? So it's up to us to keep the streets safer. Ill have to start walking around dressed as a batman. We need heroes in the worst way...

These ****ers are dangerous. I honestly don't really care about the danger they put themselves in, but always having to be aware of them going almost the speed of traffic on walkways is ridiculous. I'm constantly have to keep an eye out to pull my dog back to me at the last second, or keep from being sideswiped as they laugh and speed off. Even hiking. Had one plow through me going full speed down a trail that was barely wide enough for a person, let alone a bike. I didnt see him coming. One second just strolling down the trail, the next thing I know im face planted on the ground along the side of the trail, only to look up and see a bicyclist flying down the hill. Didnt look back, didn't even slow down. F them all.

I have more empathy for the squirrels. I don't expect them to know better. Though, maybe my standards for humanity are just impossibly high. "Don't be stupid" may simply be an unattainable threshold for many.

So I stand by my comments.

I go to a park/trail in NW HOU often that is relatively quiet and under the radar (and hopefully remains so), but it gets cyclist traffic from the White Oak Bayou trail. I ride some as well, granted, but some of these folks seem to treat it like their personal track trying to hit speed records despite all the walkers around including families, sometimes with kids in strollers. So I get your frustration, especially with the ones that zoom by a foot from me despite having plenty more space to do so. Just strange behavior

But back to this thread, I'm more judgmental about the random grown ass adults joyriding on motorized bikes and scooters that I encounter there than anyone else. Just have some common sense and awareness so I can enjoy my walk/run without having to worry about ending up in the hospital that day.

Thankfully the city put a stop to all the idiots renting and zooming around downtown at night on the scooters.

The realm of e-bikes, e-skateboards, e-scooters, and other electric vehicles resembles the wild west.
Simply traverse any university campus during peak hours. You are entrusting your safety to the hands of individuals who only a few years before were driving tricycles.

I simply do not understand cyclists who choose to be arrogant about whatever rights they have to use the same roadways as motorized vehicles. I used to be a bicycle commuter until I was almost killed by a reckless driver. I knew from the very beginning that I had to take the most defensive posture possible when riding on roadways. Always assume drivers will be stupid, impatient, oblivious, etc. and that still didn't save me from an ambulance ride. These people who ride bikes/scooters and assert themselves against cars just to prove some point about their "right to the road" have no place to complain when they play chicken and lose.

Like bicycles, these things should not be allowed on the public roadway. It's way too dangerous for everyone involved to have these menaces on the road. If I was king of the world, one of the first day items would be to get everything slower than a car off the roads immediately.
