I get that Michigan has not had a Rep. Senator since 2001, but El-Sayed cannot pull in the independent vote. Virtually all polls have El-Sayed losing to Rogers in November, whereas Stevens beats Rogers in the polls. This will be a huge pickup for the Republicans, even if it is only for six years. You're not going to get the guy that calls for abolishing the police and refuses to condemn war criminals elected in MI.

Socialist insurgents eye Midwest gains as Dem civil war threatens must-hold Senate seat

Quote:

"This is ground zero in the battle for the future of the Democratic Party, pitting status quo corporate Democrats against shake up the system economic fighters, and we'll see who wins," Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC), a leading group on the left, told Fox News Digital.

The primary face-off pits Abdul El-Sayed, a former Wayne County Health Department director, against Rep. Haley Stevens, a more moderate candidate backed by the establishment. The race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, who is backing Stevens, is a must-hold for the Democrats and one of roughly a dozen Senate races from coast to coast that will determine if Republicans hold onto their slim Senate majority.

Quote:

The winner will face off in the midterms against former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, who is on a glidepath to win the GOP Senate nomination.

The Trump-backed Rogers, who lost the 2024 Senate election in Michigan by a razor-thin margin, said in a Fox News Digital interview that he doesn't care whom he faces off with in November.

"It doesn't matter to us. We've looked at both candidates. We feel confident we're going to beat either one of those candidates that come out of that race," Rogers highlighted.

And Rogers claimed, "They are very radical, and they are way too extreme for Michigan. I mean, Abdul, he has his own special sauce of crazy."

22% of Dems now consider themselves socialists.

They will support anything the party does...boys can be girls, open borders is good policy...communism is cool

The socialist cancer has metastasized. The only question is "how long till they bring down the country"?

I think that if the American people in general have to choose between a populist socialist worker party and a populist freedom focused party, the socialist party gets curb stomped.

What both sides in DC are trying to reduce is the backlash against elitism that neither side really saw coming because they live in an ivory tower echo chamber.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

If this is ground zero for the future of the DemocRAT Party I can assure you the Socialists (Communists, really) are highly motivated and their billionaire Commie financial backers have been working on the "break the glass" do not fail cheat plan and the "normie" dems are toast.
"Green" is the new RED.

Good perspective. I think most citizens are scared ****less of communism. Ingrained thru generations of long-time citizens plus those that are here that fled communism. On the other side are ugly liberal women and recent immigrants that flowed here from the Obama immigration policy. Both are looking for the nanny state and the free American ride. We outnumber them plus have the money and organizational skills to curb stomp them, as you say.

Under appreciated is Trump endorsements that eliminated some RINO's. Still have some clean up duty, but I think Republicans do well in both the House and Senate in November.

no one ever accused democrat primary voters of being smart, but it is kinda crazy they watched republicans put up fringe candidates in competitive seats who ended up losing the last few cycles, and are now deciding to do the same thing in an election where control of congress is so important

This thread is about the Democrats, not the Republicans.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Not a Nazi? Didn't they have a literal Nazi running for the Senate and the entire party dutifully supported him until they realized he might actually lose?

one that lacks enough broad appeal to win a general election against a democrat in an otherwise republican-leaning environment. recent examples would be walker in georgia, oz in pennsylvania.

I'm not arguing that nominating El-Sayed isn't dumb-it is-but the bolded statement is not true. Rogers is winning in exactly one poll against El-Sayed in the current RCP average, and has a nominal lead of 0.3 points.

Dems are choosing an "exciting" crypto-Marxist who will secure the Arab Dearborn vote and make this race a pure toss up versus a lean D.

The Michigan Muslim contingent is a problem for the Democrats. These voters have already demonstrated that they will sit on their hands and not vote if the Dem candidate doesn't possess the requisite amount of ideologic purity. I'm not sure why they felt, for example, that not voting for Harris for not being sufficiently opposed to Bibi pummeling Gaza made sense, given that the alternative was the guy who wanted to help him do it. But here we are.

Muslims are a problem for Americans, but especially for Democrats nationally, not just in MI. It's not going to get better for the latter before it gets much worse.

The 'best' Democrat really right now for 2028 is Josh Shapiro, who has not run PA into the ground but is a good executive, but he is functionally disqualified for being Jewish (as was the case after Kamala's team picked him to be the VP candidate, even releasing a video/ad).

It's not that Israel/Jews should be the center piece of American politics, but that it is disqualifying on the left now that matters. And that is only going to escalate as muslims demand fealty as their numbers grow.

I hope you are correct but Michigan has very few patriots and less US born American citizens these days. The culture there is like a third world country.

Communists aren't fringe candidates. They make up a 1/3rd of your party.

Being driven by a 10 point margin in a single poll, which is a prominent outlier in the data set.
