Unquestionably Cornyn.

He had a lot of power for a long time, including being chair of the NRSC. I would posit we wouldn't have a Senator Murk to deal with today had an actual good person been in that slot when she decided to run as a write in after losing the primary. That alone makes him unquestionably much worse, and I could go on with about 10 more things but it's no longer worth it.

Cornyn dumb as a rock, no offense to rocks.

I had a business concern that was going to be badly affected by some pending regulations by a federal agency, back in the day. Had reason to contact both of their offices. KBH's office was responsive and followed up. Cornyn's sent a form letter acknowledging my inquiry and that was it.

His office sure as hell knew who I was when they wanted campaign contributions, however.

My lobbying friend had many the same experiences.

Cornyn should never have been representing the state of Texas in such an important role.

Best riddance.

For those that don't know KBH and her husband Ray (who was... a piece of work) did a lot to change things behind the scenes in Texas to shift things to the GOP. Having dealt with both face to face KBH wasn't interested in you but was interested in the work. She could do the politician stuff but wanted the work done. I have never, ever gotten that since from Cornyn, or his staff, has never given me that impression. Unless you were giving him significant money you were politely ignored at best.

KBH was before Maga. She was the typical Republican. Kind of conservative on a few things but "compassionate conservativism."
Cornyn was also an old school Republican, but he saw how Trump was changing the party to be actual fighting conservatives. He sat and did absolutely nothing. He wanted to be all swampy the way things had always been.
He ended up losing his time in Congress because he didn't understand that.

John Cornyn was worse, and it's not even close. He's been there longer and in a much better position to screw Republicans.

Also, Big Rob for the win. Nailed it.

Cornyn got on the elevator with me at Reed after he spoke at graduation in 2000ish. He was Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court at that time.

I've been on other elevators with other, better people since then.

That was in the old days when SWA had those plastic boarding passes they handed out when you arrived at the gate. I was making a connection and got to the gate before the previous flight had even departed. I was thinking, "Great! I can get a single-digit boarding pass.". When they opened the counter to start distributing boarding passes for my flight, I was second in line and got something like 15. WTF?

I waited another hour, and when they started calling for boarding, KBH and one of her lackeys showed up out of nowhere with boarding passes 1 and 2. That was the day I learned I was not an important person and that fun SWA marketing from the 80s and 90s was bullfeces

If this was around 2005, I was probably the intern that sent that form letter.

He could have nutted up and supported the SAVE Act and wouldnt have even had a primary challenger. Full stop.

Instead, he was stubborn and got his dumb ass thrown into the dumpster, and rightfully so, in a historic beatdown.

1. Not dumb.

2. Even IF inaccurate, NOWHERE NEAR dumbest post of the year.

You new around here?

I would tweak the description by saying KBH had one foot in the swamp almost all the time. She would get aboard popular conservative positions and even lead on perhaps a few. Was she overly (at times) influenced by lobbying and contributions? Absolutely. Would she work with dems when it was either unnecessary or counterproductive? Sure. But Cornyn was a beast of a swamp rat and sought to be king of the swamp. He wanted establishment rule and pretty much equal (R/d) representation in Congress to either help him get his or at least provide cover while he got his (his meaning whatever grift he could muster). Far more interested in achieving power for longevity sake than KBH.

I met KBH and her husband once at a Dallas restaurant. Extremely nice folks. Obviously, my brief interaction with her doesn't tell much of a story. But I think her record in the Senate as a conservative is far weaker than Cruz's (although Cruz can be disappointing in some ways) but way better than Cornyn. Absent specific data showing otherwise, that's what I recall.

Cruz and Phil Graham have been the 2 best Texas senators post-Watergate. Paxton has a serious chance of being better than one or both.
