What's funny is watching any side go against the other side in terms of Gas prices. Gas prices are set by the gas companies and investors. Not world politics like Iran. The Gas companies wanted a profit. We have enough oil and Gas to go around here. Happens in every presidency

Why do you think summmer gas prices are always higher? They know demand is higher and profit from it.

Dont blame them though.

Gas prices are set by supply and demand of regional formulations plus applicable taxes. This in turn is determined by the futures markets for the type of oil required for processes at various refineries engineered for certain oil grade inputs and certain hydrocarbon outputs, some of which go into gasoline, plus the cost of various additives required.

They are generally still commodities, and any formulation of required additives, octane, etc is exchangeable for another on the market, or at least consumed as an exchangeable product by the consumer. 87 octane is pretty much 87 octane no matter what brand is on it to the consumer. It's more about a little retail price sensitivity, if the station has clean bathrooms, and can you get in and out of the exit easily from the road you are on.

At many levels, commodity market activity like futures purchases and long term contracts and available supply versus demand set the price. It isn't some grand oligarchic conspiracy outside of maybe the pathetic remnants of the OPEC cartel and various sanctions.

Coming down a few pennies is meaningless unless its just about cheerleadering for Trump.

Until both gas and diesel come back down to the pre-Iran bombing levels, it is not helping him or the GOP.

Unless inflation drops remarkably, then the midterms will be a bloodbath for Trump and the GOP. They could even lose "safe" Senate seats in Alaska, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas, along with zero pickups and the inevitable loss in North Carolina.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I am in Wholesale fuel and get cost from every terminal in 26 states every 12 hours. This last few months have been crazy and I have had to deal with calls from dealers pissed that they paid .60 more per gallon because their load was pulled two hours before a huge price drop. It's been more volatile than I have ever seen outside of post Hurricane activity.

Down 25 cents the last month nationally.

Probably driven by demand, which is not necessarily a good thing.

Trump has asked for the gas tax to be eliminated. Congress evidently did not realize it was their job to do this.

They've been coming down for almost two weeks now.

At their peak, gas was $3.89 and now it's down to $3.62.

Still over a buck fifty more than I was paying a few months back, but less is less and I'll take it.

Now to get back down to the baseline.

By me, in SA it got up to 4.199. Is down to 3.529, I believe.

Going down meant it went up. For whatever reason.

Cheerleading a few pennies down while still way more expensive than before is the definition of "Bold move Cotton......"

Doesn't the summer season tend to drive prices higher as demand increases?

Nobody can afford vacations. Gas prices, brisket prices, housing affordability… all things Trump promised to fix has only made worse.

The job market is disastrous per my read of Facebook, Reddit and LinkedIn.

It's going to be a bloodbath in November and it's going to be a bloodbath because of Trumps dumb tariffs and forever war in Iran.

Not to mention the impact the Epstein files has had on gas prices.

Not necessarily. There usually is a slight retraction in prices following a holiday as demand decreases. So a dip after Memorial Day, as just passed, is not unusual.

Holy ****, you can't be serious!

What you are describing is much more like supporting liberal governors and mayors to lock down during Covid, causing massive layoffs. Then get those same jobs back and claim you built the economy.

Quote:

The all-time highest U.S. gas price occurred on June 14, 2022, when the national average reached $5.02 per gallon. This record-breaking surge was primarily driven by pandemic-recovery supply constraints and energy market shocks following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war.

While the 2022 peak remains the historical high, prices recently spiked near those records in May 2026, hitting $4.56 per gallon. This recent surge was caused by the conflict in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, constricting global oil supplies. [1, 2, 3]
