She got run over by a damned old train.

Yeah I saw that discography looking him up today. Had no idea about those. Managed to find one of the songs on Odysee. It is as bad as the title sounds.

My wife and I met at the Chicken. I was playing 42 on the slate table. She was standing against the half bar up front. We made eye contact singing "The Ride". Jan 31, 1991. We have been married 34 years now.

ā€œIt was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.ā€

Is it just my faded memory, or did they not play "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" at the end of every Thursday night at the Hall of Shame?

Depends on who you ask. He was a prolific songwriter that had a lot of hits performed by others. "The song he is known for" was written by someone else.

Quote:

He said, "Drifter, can you make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them guitar strings?"
He said, "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
'Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, it's a long, hard ride"

I think it is/was played at the end of every night of every country bar that ever existed.

And in Texas, the talk turned to Outlaws
Like Willie, and Waylon, and me, hey
My name is David Allen Coe, and I'm from Dallas, Texas
They say Texas music's in the making
And we been making music that is free
Doing one-night stands, playing with our bands
Willie, Waylon, and me, Big Jim
Willie is the only one left now at age 93.

And six degrees of separation, I worked with a dude whose Uncle was "Big Jim". Played steel guitar in DAC's band.

Around the time of Napster there were several highly racist songs that were attributed to him, but were not actually him at all. I'm curious which songs you were thinking were his.

People confuse him with Johnny Rebel. An actual racist song writer.

It was played every Thursday night, but as I remember the final song of the night was "Good night, Irene."

Here.

It wasn't played as the last song but it was definitely requested and all the BQs would gather around and do a little line dance kick routine and end with a hump it.

Still gets played at wedding receptions for Aggie Bandsmen.

Um, they're out there on YouTube. I obviously won't post them, but him singing the songs in concert.

No line dancing (unless you wanted to call The Schottische at the end of Cotton Eyed Joe a line dance) was, mercifully, done at the Hall of Shame (or anywhere) in the era I'm talking about. I would hate to have witnessed what you're describing
