Data collected DW a left leaning source so maybe it's actually worse than 1 in 5.

Socialism and multiculturalism doesn't seem to be working so well. Maybe they just need to outlaw leaving.

180 years for me. Back then Germany wasn't much of a republic. Lots of kingdoms still fighting amongst each other. The patriarch died shortly after arriving here and is buried in a mass grave in New Braunfels from the cholera epidemic. The matriarch got swindled out of their money, and had to let a preacher in Fredericksburg raise her two sons while she raised the daughters. I am still in search of reparations related to that injustice.

Germany already had a massive problem with population decline BEFORE this which is why they loved to bring in as many illegal muslim immigrants as possible

this just makes it easier for the Muslims to conquer Europe without a shot.

Mine left in 1887 and again later up to 1912. All came to central Texas. My great grandmother died at 103 in 2021 and was buried outside of Lexington Tx. She had 16 children and spoke fluent German. And she never left Texas.

family reunion is next weekend and there will be at least one German polka.

Germany has had this issue for about 150 years. All of Central Europe has had this problem. The Muslim problem is new to a Germany but much older for Southern Europe. We act like this is something new but the battle for a Europe is 1200 years old.

I don't understand this. How did things work 200-500 years ago? I don't buy this "we need more people" nonsense. Someone is making money in spreading this.
The answer is always "let's bring in some muslims, we can also show diversity". How are people so stupid? You bring in Muslims now, they will never leave and in 100 years you become an Islamic country.

When you operate socialistic governments but aren't breeding as a population, the natural outcome is to import people. Only way you can continue the grift. But then the people you import can't replace a native 1:1 from an inputs/outputs standpoint so the situation just degrades even faster.

It's a death spiral. But the elite natives still in charge don't really care because they are just trying to live out their lives in decadence.

Individually, only 21 percent said Merz was doing a good job.

According to a YouGov poll from 2025, 31 percent of all Germans surveyed would "definitely" leave if factors such as jobs, money, or personal connections did not keep them in the country. The two highest areas of dissatisfaction were migration at 61 percent and cost of living at 41 percent, according to the European Conservative.

The poll found 79 percent of AfD supporters said they would leave Germany if they could.

Germany is estimated to have about 5.5 million Muslims.

Ok, where would these folks like to go, assuming they gain mobility to become expats? Argentina has some decent German schools I hear. AfD is conservative but also anti-American in general, so I don't think their followers/members are interested in moving to Texas etc.

Apparently Switzerland, Austria, Spain and France (as well as the US) are common destinations for them. That doesn't get them away from leftists, nor even moslem hordes for the most part. Apparently around a million Germans leave per year, but if I had to guess those are likely/mostly retirees.

Half of mine came in the early 1800s and the other half in the 1870s. In the later case it was the Prussians that drove them out.

Thumm family name. Same time line as yours, but they settled out in Castroville. Thumm married a Danheim while working on their ranch in Mason.

They aren't doing very good research if they are jumping ship to Spain. Spain is leading the way in being the worst country in Europe right now. Full blown commies.

Yes, and if 'cost of living' is a driver as stated, heading to Switzerland and Austria doesn't really check out either.

To counter myself, maybe Spain has less of an immigrant problem than Germany? I don't know.

Because the natives all still want their cradle to grave welfare so it's not like they don't tacitly support communism. They just don't want it degraded by the third world.

Or, maybe they are fleeing Germany because Merz is actually talking with some level of common sense vs their prior leftist leaders and these are actually the far left leaving.

If we are doing a "when my German ancestors left" contest, I submit my family line that arrived in 1706, so 320 years. Arrived Pennsylvania , moved to North Carolina, then Tennessee A (multiple) Great uncle built a stone house near Granite Quarry NC, in 1764. It still stands.

My mother's side arrived as Germans but from Russia just at the end of WWI. They left Germany for Russia as a group of several thousand farmers. Got to the Russian empire and everything the Russian government promised was a lie. But they weren't allowed to leave. So they started a tiny German town and lived more or less as Germans until they escaped during the chaos of the war and revolution.

I think they mostly came through in 1919.

My grandmother was a little girl but remembered the terror of the cossacks. She claims and I believe her that they would raid the village/town and sometimes grab a baby and throw it up in the air to catch it on the end of a bayonet.

When did they come to Texas?

After generations fighting the invading Ottoman Turks in southern Austria, and moving to Germany and losing everything to fight for their religious freedom in the 30 years war, I wonder what my ancestors would think of Germany now.
