People are stupid.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Cornyn is number 5 on the Lugar scale, Collins is number 1, Murkowski is number 7. Lugar scale is measurement of senators most amenable to compromise with the other party.

I voted for Wesley Hunt, but I think there will be a primary runoff between John Cornyn and Ken Paxton. If that happens, I hope John Cornyn wins the primary because I think Cornyn has a better chance than Ken Paxton of beating James Talarico in the general election. A general election matchup between Paxton and Talarico would likely be a tossup. If Jasmine Crockett wins the Democratic nomination, she has a slim chance of winning the general election.

A Democrat hasn't won any Texas statewide election since 1994, a Texas gubernatorial election since 1990, a Texas US Senate election since 1988, and Texas electoral votes in a Presidential election since 1976. I hope these trends continue in the gubernatorial and US Senate elections on 11/3 to keep Texas red.

I voted Paxton because he's done a great job as AG and has stood up for Texans unlike any politician in Texas office today. Cornyn is a bought and paid for liberal and Hunt will pretty much be Cornyn 2.0. Fears that Paxton won't win the General are just the establishment trying to scare conservatives to vote Cornyn.

No surprise this is your take, especially on Hunt.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I could give two ****s what Paxton did in his personal life (though it certainly does give you a window into his integrity). I care about the underhanded things he did at his job. There are plenty of people that have his same conservative values that we could elect for this position without picking the dirtiest underwear in the drawer.

Hunt basically has the same voting House record as Paxton - none. Empty suit that doesn't show up for his job.

I don't trust Cornyn.
I don't trust Paxton.

But for completely different reasons. Cornyn is a swamp RINO. Paxton is just morally corrupt and would sell out his grandma if it would benefit his career.

I like Wesley Hunt, but he can't win the primary against these two. He's Ross Perot in 1992...just going to glean votes away from the other two, but not anywhere near enough to win. I also don't know if what his rivals said about him voting for Obama and Hilary in their smear ad is true or not. If so, another RINO.

Ironically, I think Hunt would perform the best in the general election. Conservative, military hero, black man....he wouldn't even break a sweat against the fake preacher, the fake ghetto girl, or the fake black "moderate" dem who turned out to be just as left as anyone else once he got to DC.

ETA: I didn't realize Collin Allred dropped his bid for the Senate back in December.

I am voting Cornyn. My reasoning is I want a long-term replacement for his seat. I don't see it here. We need to do better next time.

I agree in principle. Unfortunately that has been the argument for several cycles and we keep putting a guy in there who isn't looking out for the interests of those who vote for him out of routine.

I'll vote for Paxton if he's the only choice over Cornyn. My concern with Paxton is, being a Senator is a different animal. As an AG, or a member of the House, you can be more of a bulldog. Like it or not, Senators have to gravitate toward some degree of diplomacy. I think someone with too strong of a personality (or baggage) either sinks or opens themselves to criticism of 'becoming DC' simply because there's more compromising that goes on in the Senate the longer they're in it. Fetterman hasn't reflected what he ran on, Dem voters wanted someone more combative. I like Cruz, but he had to adjust to the role as well. With Paxton, I'd be concerned over the seat being more vulnerable in 6 years. Then again, someone like Cornyn is flirting with being too compromising and that could eventually backfire as well.

Voted for Hunt in the primary. Will vote for Paxton in the runoff.

Can't trust a man who does this.

Those same people have skeletons that aren't known yet. Start running for an office like this and it will come to light. There's a reason some choose to not run.

Valid, but you do trust a man who voted for Obama?

He nearly screwed up the VZ War Powers vote by not being there 6 weks ago.

He misses committee and subcommittee meetings routinely. That's not the act of a serious legislator. Those votes matter more in the Senate than in the House to advance bills as the committee size advantage is 1 Senator.

It's not a new thing either. He pretty much no showed his Mental Health Board position prior to becoming a Congressman. I don't want to elect an absentee Senator.

While I partially agree, even the Democrat Senators hold their crazy in compared to their Congressional counterparts. And it's a big reason why Texas Democrats were stupid to put so much support behind Crockett. She has no chance.

The big problem for us is that if Cornyn survives the run off, expect him to go full Thom Thillis/Murk/Turtle for 6 years, knowing he doesn't have to deal with pesky voters again.

as i said on other thread:

It looks like democrats will have more primary voters than republican voters.

By comparison to past primaries in mm:
2024: 2.2 to 0.96
2022: 1.9 to 1
2020: 1.9 to 1.8
2018: 1.5 to 1

This is not to say Texas is going to be blue in November. But Republicans need to wake up. Democrats are motivated and sense blood in the water, right or wrong.

We have the numbers. We can't waste them.

Whether it's Cornyn or Paxton, get out and vote for him. Don't cry in your cereal.
