Just got through with a meeting with our AI team who built our own proprietary "agent". I have been helping work on our agricultural dataset by building step by step tools to analyze data to improve soil and fertilizer decisions. Think about a multistep algebra equation from Agronomy 101 for "how much fertilizer to apply". Now they have shifted us to building out the "skills" needed to do analysis of this type. So rather than writing a program that follows my exact steps every time and never adapts, we are programing the agent to understand soil chemistry, weather forecasting, fertilizer mixing, yield goals, and crop fertility requirements so it can solve these problems with more flexibility. I work with a team of brilliant software engineers and I am just a random agronomist.

Three months ago it was like talking to a 5 year old about how flowers grew, and now it is like talking to a seasoned professional. The future is going to wild if you are a typical college student that thinks "I'll get my degree and a $100k engineering job." If you are not teaching your kids the classical way of thinking about problems and having creative, thoughtful solutions then you are setting them up to fail.
