I figured best to post here in Politics forum for more exposure to inform. Be mindful when buying cameras, tv's etc that if they are Chinese the CCP will have a lot of data on you

A security vulnerability tied to DJI's $2,000 Romo robot vacuum reportedly allowed a single device credential to surface access to nearly 7,000 machines operating in 24 countries. These are not simple appliances. They are internet-connected sensors mapping bedrooms, kitchens, hallways, and living rooms in real time.

Yep, avoid anything made by Chinese companies whenever possible, especially electronics.

Security systems, or as noted here, something that maps out your home, are some of the worst.

I did a random scan of my network a while back as I do from time to time and found some plug in air freshener my wife bought that was logged into my wifi, a f'n air freshener! Why would an air freshener need network access? No doubt some chinese crap bought online.

FIFYmaybe

Wouldn't surprise if if just reading the fine print would have revealed this issue as well.

Noone ever reads that stuff.

I have a chinese wifi camera out at my land - made by Reolink
I have several chinese roku tvs at home and at the land - made by Hisense
I have a chinese drone out at my land - made by DJI
I have a chinese thermal scope for my rifle - made by DNT Optics
--all cheap "connected" devices.

I don't like that USA and the west have ceded manufacturing of everything to much cheaper low wage subsidized communists.
I don't like that USA and the west have become dependent on the supply chains and logistics controlled by China.
I don't like that China is taking over the world in part by making the entire west dependent on them because they stole IP from companies across all industries.

...but their stuff is cheap and seems to work as intended. It's tough not to buy it when it's much cheaper. Bezos turning an online bookstore into a storefront for cheap chinese knockoffs really paved the way for our dependency.

It's why the tough pill to swallow tariffs are needed to rebalance the world, bring manufacturing back to create jobs and better national security. They won't buy any of our stuff. They'll just steal the IP and sell the same thing to us. Trade agreements need to work both ways because one way deals have exposed ourselves to serious economic and security vulnerabilities.

How weak is your WIFI password that an airfreshener can hack it?

I assume so the device can send a notification to your wife when it's time for a refill. ...and for a CCP company to receive data from your network.

How else would it access the TexAgs Politics Board and pornography? As far as I know that's all a wifi network is used for

Good to know. I gave a DJI microphone to my pastor son for use at his church. Now I'll get him a new camera as the CCP needs to see and hear his sermons.

They don't. They probably sell a million of these and figure maybe a couple will end up in a home they ARE interested in.

A lot of Chinese electronics manufacturing is now being outsourced to Vietnam and elsewhere. My Roku brand TV was actually made in Mexico. Does not mean the Chinese don't still own the manufacturing companies though.

Just a reminder that TP Link routers, which have about 2/3 of router market share in the US at last count, are still sourced out of China. There is likely malware / shareware on them.

Highly recommend you change routers.

Looks for products which are listed as TAA compliant. Those will not be made in China.

They will cost more though.

100%

TP-Link is nothing but a vacuum for Chinese intel.

Had to replace several for relatives with ASUS models which were made in Taiwan. Better quality product anyway.

Most ASUS routers are not made in China (some of their cheapest models are). IIRC, Netgear is not. Ubiquiti often comes up as not made in China, but they are.

Also, here are some decent links for products not made in commie China.

We have rules for a reason.

Side note: If the Chinese want to spy on me, they may not like what they see. Or maybe they do and I'm their type. It would be nice to be someone's type.
