Today, I'm releasing the City's preliminary budget. After years of fiscal mismanagement, we're staring at a $5.4 billion budget gap and two paths.

One: Albany can raise taxes on the ultra-wealthy and the most profitable corporations and address the fiscal imbalance between our city and state.

The other, a last resort: balance the budget on the backs of working people using the only tools at the City's disposal.

The first path matches a structural crisis with a sustainable and fair solution. I know where I stand.

New Yorkers voted for bold change and competent leadership. We will deliver both, and we look forward to partnering with Albany to protect working New Yorkers.

NYC budget is ****ed. Putting the ball and ownership of the budget crisis and fixing on everyone but NYC.

Expect additional exodus out of NYC to Texas and Florida.

ha ha, Hochul endorsed the little Muslim commie!

Now he's putting a gun to her head: either do what I want, or I will raise taxes on everyone in NYC and the useful idiots that support me will vote you out!

Notice that the option of reducing spending is not an option for a commie, aka democrat!

Gee, a balanced budget, but comes with a little pain. Or theft.

So predictable. I hope those uber-wealthy trust fund babies living in NYC don't piss off mommy and daddy.

Introducing a new 100% hotel occupancy tax, 100% city occupancy tax, 100% state hotel tax coming to an NYC near you.

I actually haven't visited NYC, so maybe it's already there?

And now Mamdani with a power move on Hochul. Could be wrong but don't think Hochul has the political instincts nor enough support to tell him no.

Love how balancing the budget is the "last resort".

God forbid fiscal responsibility becomes a priority.

NYC's operating budget was 120 billion last year.

Houston's was 7 billion.

Lost Angeles' was 14 billion.

Clearly New York isn't taxing the rich enough.

There's a third path. Stop ****ing wasting money on useless stuff like all your social and welfare programs. . Balancing a budget is something most Americans deal with monthly, at least the smart ones. If you can't afford something you put it off til you can. The dumb ones impulse buy with a credit card because they "need" whatever it is. Living within your means requires humility and self control, neither of which your average liberal has.

That's the 5 billion dollar question. His "solution " is a one year fix. Hilarious

NYC proposed budget for next year is $127 billion.

8.3 million people live in NYC

Every man, woman and child needs to pay a flat tax of $15,300.

Simple.

So fund a recurring cost with a fixed bucket of money. Brilliant.

That's a plan only a useful idiot could embrace. Good thing NYC is full of them.

So a $5 billion gap from an $11 billion increase year over year. And the problem is not enough tax revenue?

And then he'll have to raid it again next year. And the year after that. And eventually he'll drain all of the resources, which anyone with an ounce of knowledge understands because socialism/communism doesn't work because you eventually run out of other people's money. Personally, I'm happy its happening because it serves as a stark reminder that its a failed political theory. Unfortunately, people have to be reminded of that from time to time. Better it happens in NYC than nation-wide.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Of course this idiot blames it on lack of revenue, rather than bloated spending.

His solution - make the rich folks pay for bloated spending. Elections do have consequences though and this election continues to show that New York further delve in a **** hole
