The Brits basically built Hong Kong into a giant trading port city over about 1.5 centuries. It would be like Pakistanis and Indians showing up in the English countryside 2 millennia ago and building London from a small local village into what it is today. That's not at all what happened, so that counter argument is not really valid.

What is happening today is freeloading, looting, and exploiting if a generous welfare state of a nation who simply allows it over reasons of sanctimony and destructive empathy and virtue signaling.
